In my latest Well Being With Friends conversation, I chat to Josefina A. Theo - founder beautiful sustainable swimwear brand Casa Raki. I picked up some new insights in the world of sustainable fashion and manufacturing, along with other stories and suggestions for daily life and balanced wellbeing. From recent reads and favourite wellness apps, to travel memoirs and mantras to live by, I hope you discover a selection of new things to try and to apply to your own lifestyle, to assist and support your journey of self-development and prosperity.

A picnic I had last weekend with my best friends at the top of Col de Vence, the most beautiful natural setting, with the best company and the best food and wine. I felt very grateful for life in that moment.

If we were to try just one thing for our wellbeing, what would be your one tip:

Yoga changed my life, I would honestly recommend practicing it regularly, It's not only great for the mind, but it's a game changer for the body as well.

Favourite or recently discovered sustainable fashion brand:

I would say my own as I'm the biggest fan of our mission, but If I had to pick another one it would be Patagonia. They've been championing sustainability for almost over 50 years and are way ahead of the curve. They should be an inspiration to all sustainable brands starting out today.

Favourite pieces from that brand:

Weirdly I would say their wetsuits, they are amazing quality and they last a lifetime. I grew up surfing in them Punta Del Este.

What are your core values when it comes to sustainability and sustainable business and fashion? What are the key practices within Casa Raki and why do you do what you do? How do you evolve the business ethically whilst keeping up with trends and larger more commercial brands?

As a business we try to be as sustainable as we possibly can. We always pick a sustainable option for our production if there is one available. It is challenging for a young business to do, as recycled materials, organic cottons, etc are usually more expensive than the ordinary options but the options are readily available and of equal if not better quality. I don’t just want aspects of the company to be sustainable, that is no longer enough. I want the whole company to be sustainable; from our fabrics, supply chains to the way we treat our workers while passing on a fair price and wonderful product to the end consumer. I decided against trends because I believe it encourages an unsustainable consumer behaviour, so we are going against the grain with reasonless, timeless styles that are not trend-driven.

Favourite or recently visited country or city:

My favourite country of all time is Brazil. I would highly recommend everyone to go and explore the north of the country, especially. There are some amazing natural hidden gems and I am constantly finding inspiration for the new collections there.

A story from your favourite or recent travels:

Swimming with sharks on our honeymoon! So scary but exhilarating!

Favourite or recently discovered wellness product or tool:

Jade Roller, a bit late to the party, but wow what a great gadget!?

Favourite piece of advice, quote or mantra:

Take it easy and don't be too hard on yourself! My mother keeps repeating this to me weekly.

Your favourite remedies for illness:

My sisters tip: raw garlic! It's incredibly healing.

Tips for better sleep:

Eye masks! I’m a recent convert.

Favourite or recently discovered place or person for ultimate chill:

The Rectory Hotel in England; a lovely place for a city escape.

Favourite or recently discovered healer:

Acupuncture is awesome, I recently discovered it and it has helped a lot with anxiety and stress for me.

Favourite or recently discovered wellness cafe, restaurant or store:

Milk Beach in Queens Park.

Favourite healthy food or drink:

My old time favourite, Acai.

Advice for that work / life balance:

Switch off as soon as you come home, leave your phone and computer in your bag.

Business advice for business owners, self employed or anyone keen to start their own business:

Never give up! There's a lot of obstacles on the way, but don't let them bring you down. And always have a solid business plan in place first. Unfortunately, good design is not always enough to keep a business stable.

Take three. deep. breaths.

Spiritual practise:

Meditation.

First thing you do every morning:

Meditation.

Last thing you do every evening:

Read a book.

Weekend rituals:

Walking our dog in the park.

Complete this sentence. What works most for me is:

Doing a lot of Yoga weekly and enjoying being present. Spending as much time as I can with all my close friends and family who make me happy every day just by being there.

The time has finally come for me to reveal the release of my debut book, Well Being: a collection of recipes and rituals to realign the body and mind. Below is a brief breakdown of what's to come, and if there's anything else you want to know, leave a question in the comments or ask me via email.

I have been manifesting this book for years and finally started working on it in 2016. I then spent pretty much all of 2017 planning, writing and shooting its contents and, 10 months later, it's a real life book that you can buy and hold and read. Life is crazy.

The book contains natural recipes and rituals inspired by ancient traditions and aimed at realigning the body and mind to restore balance within, both mentally and physically. It contains rituals and other practices aimed at undoing the damage of side effects of modern life - such as stress, depression, low energy, lack of sleep, poor digestion, and much more.

Well Being is a combination of the most valued rituals and recipes I have discovered over the years, since embarking on my journey of eating healthily and living well. Each section contains rituals to help reduce stress, ease digestive issues and encourage a sense of balance, calm and clarity, followed by recipes made with entirely natural ingredients, designed with each stage of the day in mind. Morntime rituals and recipes energise the body and mind, Daytime rituals and recipes enhance productivity, In Between Time rituals and recipes encourage concentration and focus, Evening Time rituals and recipes aim to refuel and Nighttime rituals and recipes aim to encourage relaxation and deep sleep.

Offering a collection of recipes and rituals to realign the body and mind, inspired by nature, modern-day needs and a variety of age old traditions from wellbeing systems from all over the world, the book combines all-natural, carefully considered recipes with simple rituals, each of which are tailored to specific times of the day, underpinned by the common interest in reducing the stresses of modern day life. Its main intentions are to reduce stress, improve digestion, enhance energy levels, improve sleep, enhance concentration, strengthen immunity, encourage positivity and reverse the effects of illness - all by understanding and utilising the power of natures healing ingredients and the potential of your own body and mind.

With over 200 recipes, 60 rituals and 30 recipes for beauty and home remedies, Well Being is a versatile and easy-to-use handbook for anyone, anytime, anywhere. It will guide you through each stage of the day and provides advice and education to help you to fine-tune the fundamental foundations of wellbeing, to personalise them and to curate an individualised set of guidelines you truly understand and enjoy enough to sustain them. It will guide you through your ever-changing journey with flexible and adaptable information rather than restrictive rules or extreme, quick-fix methods.

MAIN FEATURES

Official release date: January 4th 2018

Over 200 food recipes

Over 60 rituals

Over 30 recipes for beauty remedies and home solutions

The book is divided into five main sections: Morntime, Daytime, In Between Time, Evening Time and Nightime. Each is then subdivided into rituals and recipes

The recipes are mostly plant-based although some contain eggs, and there are suggestions to include meat or other animal products in certain recipes, depending on your dietary choices / requirements. The recipes in the book are adaptable and don't fall under any official label or systems, reinforcing that no single diet works for every one and that the keys to adopting sustainable lifestyle habits is responsibility, understanding, individualisation and flexibility.

The book includes a detailed introduction to the more 'buzzy' ingredients I tend to include in my recipes, such as adaptogens and tonic herbs, and these are always included in an 'elevate it' section of the ingredients list, rather than standing at the forefront of a recipe. The foundations of the recipes in this book are all accessible, easy to come by ingredients.

How-to recipes for daily goods (including how to make 2 minute almond milk, coconut yoghurt, sauerkraut, buckwheat pasta, almond pasta, bagels, breads, pickles and quickles, chutneys, nut butters and other spreads, stocks and broths from scratch) that guarantee consistent and effortless cooking at your fingertips.

January Essentials (2017)

Review, Beautydanielle coppermanComment

One month of 2017 down and I've loved every minute of it. That is, aside from seeing something very unusual indeed become the presidant of the USA, but I'm trying not to think about that. Although, sometimes you need something a little bit shit (ok, a lot shit) to happen in order to make space for even better things. Sometimes the 'little bit shit' things that happen are the trigger of just the powerful wake up call that needed to surface - to reconnect and realign things perhaps lost of forgotten. The things we manifest evolve from thoughts to things by the amount of energy focussed on the subject at hand. The more energy we focus on something, the more likely we are to see the kind of change we desire. The marches this month have been such a powerful start to the year, and seeing people come together supporting each other and supporting the same cause, has reminded me that, although often humanity is all kinds of weird, there is still a sense of community going strong. I personally feel that in a world where society and humanity is all over the place, this was, although a drastic thing to happen, was something we almost needed to happen, to remind us that there is nothing more powerful than uniting and coming together. The sense of community highlighted at this months marches brings so much hope and inspiration, and spreads so much strong and positive energy.

Other things offering positive energy for me this month include:

STRANGE INVISIBLES PERFUMES OF THE ZODIAC

These are just everything, and if you're Aquarius like me, firstly) happy birthday, and secondly) lucky you - our scent is right on.

FLO MORRISSEY & MATTHEW E. WHITE

A new album of the most heart warming covers, ideal any time of the day and super calming and grounding. Look at what the light did now, Grease, Everybody Loves The Sunshine are good places to start.

LIHA BEAUTY

Working mainly with coconut and shea butter, Liha and Abi, founders of Liha beauty, have developed all natural organic cold pressed beauty products utilising kitchen cupboard ingredients and natural essential oils. I can't get enough of their shea butter and their Idan oil - all made in small batches with passion, purpose and purity.

THE LIFE CHANGING MAGIC OF NOT GIVING A F**K

This book is just a to-the-point reminder that you really should not give a fuck about some things, and as soon as you decide not to, you will live so much more freely - no longer bound by your fears or whatever other hang ups you might have. It's a quick read and it changed my life in the duration of one bus journey. Sometimes you just need things to be spelled out. Giving a fuck about a lot of things drains your energy, and when you give yourself permission to not give fucks about certain things that modern day society has us giving fucks about, it's l.i.b.e.r.a.t.i.n.g.

STORIES BEHIND THINGS

This just launched and I can already tell it's going to be a beautiful journey. My advice is to be a part of.

STYLELIKEU WITH JEMIMA KIRKE

StyleLikeU is led by mother-daughter duo Elisa Goodkind and Lily Mandelbaum, who are bound by the desire to uncover what’s underneath personal style. Through candid, docu-style interviews with empowered individuals, StyleLikeU is building a world where getting dressed each morning is an act of self-love. This interview with Jemima Kirke from Girls is REAL.

LA-EVA EVERYTHING CARE

LA-EVA creates skincare products inspired by organic beauty, sensory pathways and a love of art. LA-EVA products are units of wellbeing created from fine ingredients - blended to treat the body & mind as one. Their washes and lotions are designed for the entire body, steering away from the unnecesary need to have specific products for specific parts of the body. Whilst the media as mass markets are always promoting certain products for certain areas or issues, the power and purity of LA-EVA's products make them suitable and fully functional for every part of the body.

JAMU KITCHEN

This weekend I finally, after spending years in the same industry without crossing direct paths, met the founder of Jamu Kitchen - a range of wellness tonics made from freshly ground and brewed herbs and spices. Unfortunately, you may not have the oppertunity to meet her, but do make sure you meet her tonics.

MOON CALENDAR

I'm a big believer in the phases of the moon having direct affects on all beings and matter down here on Earth (more on that another time). For that reason, I welcomed a moon calendar into my bedroom, which has helped me to understand things from thoughts, feelings, physical issues (things like indigestion / bloating / lack of appetite) and much more. Monitoring the moonphase has inforced my understanding of how connected we are with the Universe, and how certain phases of the moon correlate with certain daily issues. This one is beautiful, do yourself a favour.

BODYISM LONDON

Bodyism is so much more than just a place to workout. I've been trying a few of their classes in the past month and each one has been restorative, challenging and grounding all at once. Instead of loud music, buzzy lights and shouting instructors, expect foam rolling, functional fitness sequences and deeply relaxing stretching and shavasana (not just for yoga classes). Bodyism is the most holistic, grounding gym I've ever been to and I'd highly recommend the boxing, blueprint and warrior classes in particular, as well as stocking up on some of their supplements.

TONY ROBBINS

An exclusive insight into one of Tony Robbins' life changing Date With Destiny workshops. It's deep guys.

DRIFT MATTRESS

An all-natural wool-topped mattress. Read more about it here, along with a few other thoughts I felt like sharing about sleep.

WELLTH BY JASON WACHOB

This read helped me through November, but I didn't do a proper list of loved things back then, so here it is now. It makes all the sense.
