Life is a journey and one to embark upon with awe, wonder, excitement, curiosity, anticipation and intrigue, amongst many other things. Living with a sense of awe and wonder is a magical and enriching way to live, and the more curious you are, the more incredible experiences you will attract and the more wonder you will find in even the least wonderful things. It's an amazing way move through life. The more we notice and discover, the more we have to share with others. And in sharing the wonders of our own experiences with others, I like to think we'll add something valuable and unique to their experince too. Things and experiences come into your life in the same way people do, and there is nothing like timing to bring these things together, conincidentally or not. Never stop being curious. And never stop sharing your story. In case the time is right and you're looking for something I may have, I'm sharing a few special and meaningful discoveries (and rediscoveries) that have found a way into (and back into) my life this week.

STRALA YOGA

Put simply, Strala Yoga is yoga for everyone. Founded by Tara Stiles in response to the lack of approachable teachings and techniques, Strala focuses on using breath, ease and simplicity to guide each individual toward a personal yogic experience that feels good for them. With free videos online, Strala is about knocking down boundaries and encouraging anyone, anywhere, to discover their own personal way to practice yoga sequences. It's a non-exclusive, non-elitist, non-branded and non-businessy organisation aimed at teaching yoga as simply as it was initially intended to be.

DALUMA . BERLIN

Daluma is a calm and cosy eatery offering juices, mylks, smoothies, breakfast bowls, wholesome lunch options, dinner options and desserts in a non-exclusive way. You don't have to be an avid green juicer, you don't have to be vegan, you don't even have to be hungry. Just go, curl up in one of their cushioned window spots and chill, work or people watch with a functional beverageif nothing else (although a bowl of buckwheat porridge and cacao smoothie is advised).

MY GOODNESS . BERLIN

My Goodness Berlin is a welcoming little food bar tucked inside BeCycle - a fitness destination focussed around spinning I think, as the name suggests, although I was too hungry and uninterested in spinning to investigate fully. What I did investigate was the menu, and more specifically the kale smoothie bowl, the coconut cacao hot chocolate and the raw snickers energy ball. They offer a range of smoothies, smoothie bowls, birchers, chia seed puddings, energy balls, hot drinks, juices and shots - perfect for people avoiding processed foods and more specifically gluten, dairy and refined sugar, whilst on the go.

THE BOWL + GOODIES + VEGANZ . BERLIN

An entire building devoted to veganism, but not in a forceful way. Downstairs, Goodies is a pitstop style cafe offering smoothies, hot drinks and grab-and-go vegan salads and baked goods. Veganz is located on the same floor and is a small supermarket selling vegan, organic and sustainable food goods. And upstairs is where the real magic happens. The Bowl is a 'clean eating' (for want of a better phrase) restaurant specialising in plant based, high vibe dishes. Their bowls are gluten, grain and dairy free, but they also emphasise that a healthy and sustainable lifestyle goes beyond just what you eat and is about making concious lifestyle choices on all levels. Their main aim other than to serve delicious food is to encourage people to live simply, healthily and full of energy by becoming connected with the ingredients of the Earth. I went with a couple of girls from my training group for a late night mug of Macao (hot cacao, maca, almond milk and coconut nectar) and we're going back tomorrow for an actual bowl, or three. LET IT BE . BERLIN

Vegan and gluten free crepes, pancakes, burgers and mac & cheese. I'm not strictly vegan but this place is enough to convert me. And it's named after a bad ass mantra, if mantra's can be bad ass.

SOHO HOUSE HAMMAM + THE STORE

One evening last week I stopped by Soho House on my way home hoping there would be a sauna and / or steam room on site (it's arctic outside at this point). And did they? Did they hell. I spent the evening sweating and spaced out in a huge communal hammam room, dipping in and out of the steam room, the sauna and a quiet room which is basically just towelled beds sponsored by unlimited infused water and magazines. If you're not a member, you can visit with a member or as a spa guest and I really suggest you do.

STOW TRAVEL POUCH

I recently recieved a delivery from STOW London - a luxury brand specialising in leather luggage. Alongside their jewellery box (which is now an essential for all of my trips) was a monogrammed leather travel pouch which now comes everywhere with me. It's predominantly see-through making it perfect for travel documents and passports. It keeps me organised throughout the journey and once at my destination is a caddy for my day-to-day essentials, such as bank cards, keys, lip balm and headphones, amongst other things.

The only suitcase I will ever own from now on. Not because they have a lifelong guarantee but because they are purely genius.

This month I returned to Asos HQ where I spent most of my early days as a model, to record an episode for their podcast My Big Idea. WRITING LETTERS + USING THE POSTAL SERVICE

Whilst away from home, I took the opportunity to write a few letters. One was sent to my distant boyfriend, inside a Danke card. Some went to my family. And one will be folded many times and tucked into a concealed corner of an S Bahn station or another public place for my best friend Martha to discover when she visits the city next month. There's something so therapeutic about writing, and something so meaningful and heart-opening about putting actual words together for someone with a pen and paper, not thumbs, fingers and a glass screen.

 

BARCELONA CITY GUIDE, THE YOGA KITCHEN AND WHY YOU SHOULD TRAVEL ALONE

I'm (finally) getting around to writing this from the comfort of my boyfriends apartment in Sweden, wearing tiny nike training shorts with a contradictory oversized jumper, wrapped in blankets, drinking iced coffee. It's all very confusing, but this is what tends to happen during that awkward inbetween phase of seasonal change. And now, writing about Barcelona and browsing through photographs of myself in mermaid pose by a pool is just throwing me off even more. But you need to know about the places I discovered in Barcelona in case you're thinking of going in the future, so I'm going with it.

Earlier this year, caught up in a not-so-irregular email frenzy (the kind where you're beginning to question whether your fingers are even attached to your hands anymore given the rate they are moving) I almost trashed an email invitation that I thought at first glance was an ad. It was not. Kimberley Parsons, owner of Retreat Cafe and author of The Yoga Kitchen, was reaching out to invite me to her Catalonian Yoga Retreat (just outside of Barcelona), to celebrate the release of her cookbook. And since I had made no sturdy summer plans, and was still yet to make my way to Barcelona, my répondez (or should I say respuesta) was a no brainer. I booked my flights almost immediately, and added on a few extra days before the retreat started to spend some proper time exploring the city. My friends often find it brave that I travel alone, but I think my past experiences as a model probably have something to do with my personal lack of concern. I don't like being alone at home all day in London, but abroad, I love to be left to my own devices, and to explore a new place on my own terms. I don't just love travelling, I love exploring and discovering, which is why being alone doesn't seem to phase me. There is nothing like connecting with local inhabitants of a new place, and from experience, I manage to do less of this if I am travelling with others. Sure, I also love travelling with friends or family as the chance to share certain experiences with another person is unbeatable in its own way, but travelling alone gives you the chance and space to interpret things for yourself, and without necessarily realising it, you will often discover new things and rediscover the old, by reconnecting with yourself internally. I find that travelling opens my mind and also my heart, and enhances my energy output in a way that attracts positive and inspiring experiences and discoveries to come to me.

Despite growing up in the countryside, I have become quite the city girl. But despite being a self-proclaimed city girl, the fast pace of city life will always get to me and is something I really don't miss when I'm away from it. Barcelona has the perfect balance in this respect. It has all the busyness, excitement, creativity and innovation of any capital city, but the atmosphere is sleepy and slowed, and the vibe is more communal and authentic. And it has a beach.

With only two full days in the city before retreating north into the Catalonian hills, the inner tourist in me woke early every morning and slept late every evening. I hate the thought of missing something and love to immerse myself in the traditional culture of a new place, which in Spain, means eating dinner around the time I would usually be going to sleep. Here are a few of my favourite Barcelonian discoveries, and after that, more on the retreat:

FLAX + KALE, TERESA'S + TERESA CARLES
I headed here for a smoothie and left with three. I then returned en route to the airport at the end of my trip and gorged on sashimi salmon toast and a vegan ice cream sundae to end all ice cream sundaes. They have some unique flexitarian options and something delicious for everyone. Teresa Carles is the chef in charge, and is also responsible for Teresa's Juicery, Teresa Carles and Teresa's.

SATANS COFFEE CORNER
This place has two locations, one of which is located on the corner of some quiet bending back streets, which is where I guess the name comes from. I had an amazing iced coffee (made from the finest single original coffee beans) and chose a breakfast bowl and some poke from their menu of local, house made dishes.

BRUNCH + CAKE
More than just brunch and cake, but you can’t call a place brunch, breakfast, smoothies, coffee, juices, sandwiches, salad bowls, toasts and cake, can you? With several locations across the city this place offers interesting and exciting nourishment any time of day (despite the name).

SURF HOUSE
A cute little surf shack that makes Barcelona Beach feel like Bondi. They have an amazing selection of fusion bowls, fresh burgers and revitalising drinks, and from them I chose an amazing tuna sashimi bowl and a smoothie. It's not often you find a place with vegan options sitting across from bbq ribs and nutella drenched waffles, but this place proves it can happen.

BOCQUIERA MARKET
If you like food, and lots of it in one place, spend some time wandering Bocquiera Market. A huge indoor/outdoor food market selling fresh produce, cooked meals, meat, fish, cheese, bread, smoothies and nut and seed pick & mix. I stumbled across it accidentally and stocked up on the most amazing macrona almonds, macadamia nuts and a coconut smoothie.

MACBA MUSEUM
Due to my time restriction (and the beautiful weather outside), I didn’t explore inside the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona, but a friend of mine living in the city suggested swinging by to watch the skateboarders doing their thing. I took my Bocquiera takeaways and ate them in the sun, watching them make a half pipe out of the museum steps.

PRESS + RESET
One of few juice joints in the city, Press and Reset is a cool, cold pressed juice bar, located on the sidewalk approaching the beach. I took a strawberry almond milk from the fridge and enjoyed it with my feet in the sea.

THE JUICE HOUSE
Juices, smoothies, tea infusions, acai bowls, chia pancakes, avocado toast, salads and more, with options for meat eaters, vegans and everyone else in between.

BLUE PROJECT CAFE
Vegetarian, vegan and raw nourishment. Beautiful, delicious and incredibly functional if you need some cleansing between tapas courses and rounds of san gria.

PARK GUELL
I thought it was only right to engage in some actual tourism in between exploring the health food scene, so I made my way from the beach, through Park Cituedella all the way up to park guell. its quite a walk but i wasn’t working out so i enjoyed every sweaty minute of it. when i reached the park i explored the public grounds before taking the tour of Gaudi’s infamous architecture.

T H E    Y O G A    K I T C H E N

After two days of touring Barcelona's health food scene and making my way to enough of it's famous landmarks to satisfy my inner tourist, I headed North of the city to the a traditional 19th century converted farmhouse situated in the Catalonian hills, to join Kimberley and ten other guests for The Yoga Kitchen Retreat. Kimberley's book - The Yoga Kitchen - is all about eating to realign our seven chakras which, incase you are unfamiliar, are the different energy systems within our bodies. These chakras, known as the Root, Sacral, Solar, Heart, Throat, Third Eye and Crown, are the major energy centers of the body and are charged and recharged through contact with the stream of cosmic energy in the atmosphere. Each chakra relates to a certain part of the body, and if you feel physical or mental tension or experience complications in a certain area, this is known as a blockage or closure, and is your bodys way of showing when something is out of balance and unaligned. In her book, Kimberly focusses on the connection each chakra has with diet and mindful habits. She explains how we can support each one through our diets and provides over 100 plant based, sugar free and gluten free recipes to nurture each chakra. To emphasise the importance of phsycially and mentally nurturing our chakra's and keeping them balanced, Kathryn Fielding was our yoga teacher for the week, and each daily practice was inspired by each daily menu, focussing on a single chakra each day, starting from the root upwards.

We spent every moment before 8am in complete silence, and from 8am to 9am, this was only broken by the words of our teacher. At first, especially since I was sharing a room, I found this challenging as I hate awkward silences as it is, and wanted to acknowledge my roomie with a friendly 'good morning'. However, since everyone was silent, it wasn't really awkward at all, and by day two I had come to quite enjoy over-emphasising my smile and pointing at things in order to communicate.

After half an hour of independant, self-guided meditation, we started each day with 1 to 1.5 hours of chakra relevant morning yoga, either on a rooftop overlooking the hills, or on the edge of the infinity pool (not the infinite edge, dw). We then walked, simultaneously energised but relaxed, back up to the main house where a breakfast shot and smoothie was waiting for us. We sat at a long, communal table and got to know each other between courses of avocado toast, savoury flapjacks, egg bowls, rice bowls and hearty, seasonal salads - all made from the freshest local produce. You couldn't even imagine a brunch so perfect if you tried, unless greasy spoons or frosted flakes are your jam.

After breakfast - which was often 4 or 5 courses (sometimes 6 if you finished someone elses) of the most wholesome, natural and intentional ingredients - the rest of the day was our own. At first, I was dubious about going away with people I didnt know and was concerned that I might not want to commit to everything on the program, however, unlike a lot of more regimented retreats, we were left to do whatever we wanted for the rest of the day, and even the afternoon and evening activities were not compulsory. This fitted with the 'wake up well' and 'wind down well' ethos behind my brand, as I loved having structure in the morning and evening, but freedom to do what I wanted during the day. Somedays we walked off our breakfast banquet with a hike to and from a local lake. Others, we took bikes to the local town, played tennis in the private courts, swam in the pool, sunbathed, socialised or in some cases worked without feeling like we were working.

In the evenings, we had the choice to take part in yin and restorative yoga, often in a cool, cave-like room or on the rooftop overlooking the sunset. After that, we gathered around the communal table for a three course selection of chakra-relevant Yoga Kitchen nourishment. We started each meal with something light (raw asparagus mousse, roasted carrot gnochi, warming soups and seeded crackers). The mains (lentil dahl, white bean risotto, aubergine brown rice bowl to name a few) were fulfilling but also easy on the digestive system, and the desserts (turmeric mousse, raw chocolate bites, brazil nut ice cream) were, although not needed at all by this stage, welcomed and received with open arms (and chakras, lol). Some evenings we toasted essential oil spritzers and digestive tonics whilst star gazing, and others drew to a close with a cup of tea, a late night swim or just some low-key independant reading.

The experience as a whole was incredibly heart opening, and to have Kim and her husband both hosting, their love and energy definitley penetrated through every one of the guests. Some guests had never done yoga before whilst others were comparably pro, but no matter anyones level or ability, i defeinitely noticed something change in each guest by the middle of the week. Some people had stressful journeys, many of us were going through hectic times at work, and one was dealing with a painful breakup, but as we all opened up, shared things and let good food, positive energy and restorative yoga practices sooth these current challenges, we were able to accept things, enjoy things, embrace the power of positive thinking and of each others energy and truly let go. I swear I saw all twenty tense, hunched up shoulders drop heavily after a few hip opening postures and superfood shots.

Well Being Around the World - Obonjan Island, Croatia

This summer arrived pretty slowly and disappeared pretty quickly. Last summer, I travelled around cuba, mexico, belize and guatemala with my oldest friend, which, as you can imagine, took quite some planning. But this year, I allowed the summer to unfold naturally, making no plans whatsoever, apart from to go with the flow (said the free-spirit traveller in me).

This worked out well for me, because running my own business causes me enough stress as it is, and I didn't want the pressure of making summer plans to add to this. I love going with the flow. It is so much more fun to see what experiences and oppertunities unfold. I truly, truly believe that over-planning kills magic, and that to a certain extent, the universe has its plans for you. And luckily for me, this summer the Universe made plans for me on the Croatian island of Obonjan. So I abided.

I arrived on Obonjan island towards the end of the season (Aug - Sept), having been asked to develop an island flavour of Qnola to help the visitors and guests to Wake Up Well throughout the season. Qnola Obonjan involed a base of vanilla and maca infused organic quinoa, mildly sweetened with coconut palm sugar and enhanced with dried lavender - a native herb of Croatia and a healing addition to support the body and sooth the mind. I also contributed to the schedule and hosted some Mindful Morning events throughout my time there. We held our first gathering in the woods with Pip Roberts, where we led our guests through a centring meditation exercise, before sharing our morning regimes, techniques and other offerings specific to waking up well away from home. The entire circle opened up and we connected and learned from each other as everyone offered an insight to their own rituals.

For the rest of our time on obonjan, we genuinely just. relaxed. The qnola was already produced and sitting happy in the shop, so after ensuring that each morning was mindful, we spent the rest of our days sunbathing, eating fresh, hand made food and stargazing to our hearts content.

Scenery
From split or zadar, you take a water taxi or a shuttle boat from sibinek (check out SHE whilst you’re there), and as you pull up to the island you are greeted by serene looking wicker umbrellas, lined up as if they’ve been waiting just for your arrival. As the island is only newly inhabited, it hasn’t been built up too much, so the umbrellas stand almost alone, decorating the check-in area and an ocean-facing bar and shading prime sunbathing spots in the form of rock faces and decking.

After check in and leaving your bags for someone else to deal with, you wander through the island into calm, cool woodland; home to 2-man tents and 4-man tipi-style lodges (complete with a private bathroom and a balcony - in our case, overlooking the ocean). The accommodation is idyllic. It’s quiet and away from most of the motion, its spacious and its impeccably clean.

Adventuring further into the island, you come across the huge pool (filled freshly each morning with ocean water), multiple beaches, artistic music stages and dreamy dirt track dance floors and a selection of unique eateries.

Day Time
During the day - for those rested enough to wake up - the schedule offers meditation, yoga classes, creative and spiritual workshops and the opportunity to book a slot with the islands masseuses, reiki experts, and more. Yoga and meditation is held in different places most days, dependant on the weather and amount of people attending. From the bark of the woodland, to stone semi circles, each place is unique and special in its own way, and each is, of course, quiet and calm. We enjoyed sunrise yoga overlooking the ocean most mornings, soothed by the sounds and the rhythm of the waves, and welcoming the occasional splash. The Green Bar is the perfect place to refresh after a class or just a heavy night (serving fresh smoothies, chia seed pudding, herbal teas, avocado toast and salads), and then, there’s little more to do than eat, drink and sunbathe - oh shame. Dj’s are on a chilled vibe most of the day, providing the perfect soundtrack to whatever you have the energy to do. If you don’t like chilling, this place is not for you, and i also think you are weird, but that’s ok/just my opinion.

Evening Time
Later on, the music transitions accordingly and live acts come into play on a few of the main bars and scenic stages. Sunset yoga is a must, even if you dont do or like yoga, go and watch those who stand silhouetted in warrior 1 and the sun paints the sky (and the sea) pinks, oranges and purples. Late Lunch at Bok, dinner at The Kitchen or a pizza from Pavillion Pizza are options if you don’t fancy a floor feast in your tent, and some of the islands cocktail specialities (from Drift, The Pool Bar or Forest Bar) wash all of the above down nicely. Before, after or during the music - depending on your vibe - its nice to take a stroll to the edge of the island to find astrologers with their telescopes, eager to share their knowledge of the constellations, and stun you with a close up of the Moon and nearby planets.

Conveniences
The food on the island is amazing. It's good quality, locally sourced and fresh. So local, in fact, that if the boats can't get out or the rish can't be caught, you will experience shortages. The island has a few stores, including the SLC concept store (selling summerwear, souvenirs and spiritual offerings) and a small grocery store (selling local necessities, picnic essentials and, ofc, Qnola). There are fridges in the accomodation, so I'd recommend bringing a few things in from the boat port if you're prone to getting hangry.

Obonjan is a magical place. The island, until now, has been completely uninhabited and untouched. As soon as you arrive on the island, your mind slows down and your mood adapts to the serene surroundings and the other islanders. The energy on the island is so balanced and everyone connects somehow - if not at sunrise yoga then most probably later on at the Forest Bar. The island is small, and there is not a lot to do other than stretch, meditate and just be. But in a place where everyone else is just being, it makes the concept of checking emails or even opening your laptop totally bizzare. Obonjan is all about letting go and exploring the other special people sharing the island with you at the time. Despite live music, buzzing bars and quite possible a few hangovers, it's not really a festival at all.

Well Being Around the World - Uppsala, Sweden

I have always loved Sweden, and anything Swedish for that matter. I love the people, the design, the creativity, the lingonberry jam / smörgåsbord / gravlax / meatballs and the way you find fields and farmland on the outskirts of even the larger more industrial cities. Stockholm has the perfect balance of city living combined with country lifestyle, and I find the vibe is much slower and more laid back compared to other major cities.

Last month I travelled slightly North of the Capital to visit my boyfriend in Uppsala, during Midsommer - a National weekend-long summertime celebration. Sweden is great for many reasons, one of them being their willingness and ability to throw great parties at any oppertunity. Everyone makes an effort to get together to celebrate good company and good times with amazing homemade food and a lot of the alcoholic stuff. We spent Midsommer feasting on shrimp tarts and killing ourselves slowly with an entire kladkakka. The rest of my stay involved many fika's and by that I mean Swedish coffee breaks and by that I mean chokladbollar, cycling around the city as the sun rose (they have like five minutes of darkness during the summer), and learning to say Hej Hej and Tack Tack.

Below is a list of the best places to find things like kardemummabullar, lakes to swim in and painfully nice things for the home. Hopefully these things excite you as much as they do me.

Restaurants, Bars + Cafes

Kafe Kardemumma
Kafe Kardemumma is tucked inside Uppsala's neat little library. On the edge of hundereds of bookcases is a calm corner of cafe life. The place is filled with natural light, and the interiors - white walls, beautiful tiles, worn but wonderful wooden flooring and art deco wall lamps - create a simultaneously cool and welcoming place to enjoy a wholesome lunch or to take a fika break with a book.

Cafe Victoria
A small summer cafe situated on the edge of the Botanical Gardens, amongst allotments and overlooking the tropical greenhouse and the flourishing grounds. With outdoor space dotted with garden furniture, it is the perfect place to enjoy a coffee and some pastries or one of the more substancial homemade dishes they have to offer, before or after a walk around the gardens.

Kitchen + Table
A easy going, modern restaurant in the heart of the city. The food is a combination of World cuisine and Scandinavian cuisine, and everything is made using ingredients from local producers.
They also do a laid back brunch service on the weekends, with a buffet style offering of Swedish classics and American inspired dishes.

Cafe Linne
A great spot on a quiet, picturesque street serving coffee, cakes, pastries, sandwiches, salads and a selection of hot food. Outdoor seating makes this place an ideal spot for people watching and passing time.

Frenchi Cafe / Restaurant
A beautifully designed little number sitting on the ground floor of Klubb Rådhuset - a painfully beautiful yet modest department store in what was once used as The Town Hall - first built in 1645. Frenchi is an inspired brasserie, popular for its French menu and interiors, both of which are spiked with Asian influences. Enjoy a unique and innovative breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner anytime of day, or take a Fika in one of their terraces, with good coffee and perfect sweet treats.

Lingon
A traditional Swedish restaurant situated on the river, with a large outdoor area overlooking the calm waters. Their menu contains some of Swedens most traditional dishes, including Seafood Casserole, Gravlax and Meatballs.

Cafe Arummet
A cosy and very traditional cafe also on the river, popular for their huge counter of cakes, quiches, smörgåsbord, pastries and other sweets. They offer all-you-can-drink, refillable coffee, and this is what I used to wash down the most insane gluten free kladdkaka (several of their cakes are gluten free and some entirely dairy free and vegan).

Cafe Å Lait
A cool little one-stop shop to grab an on-the-go coffee, and a little snack if thats what your feeling.

Aaltos
A pretty spesh Italian grill serving all the Italian specialities you might expect from an Italian restaurant. With fancy interiors this place is chill just for drinks, and ideal for celebratory dinners with a nice crowd.

Terrason
The name terrason is given to this bar because of its terrace running around the entire exterior. We went here for a drink, sat on the terrace and watched the sun come up, which brought on all kinds of deep meaningful chats.

Ikea
Sorry, not sorry for this one. No one needs to include Ikea in a city guide - you should all know it's gonna be a good time there - but seriously, if the Swede's swear their meatballs are the best, then their meatballs are the best.

A beautiful place in Uppsala's picturesque train station, serving up a mixture of French and Swedish favourites.

Cousteau
A beautiful place with a nice vibe. Go there for delicious meat and fish dishes (think trout, lamb and seafood) and for real good vegetable plates (think jerusalem artichoke, chanterelles and kale). Head nextdoor for a completely vegetarian version, Legume de Cousteau.

Annabels
Everything here is prepared with locally produced Swedish ingredients, sometimes combined with the odd ingredient from neighbouring countries. They transform meat and fish into wonderful things, but the vegetables are the main focus, and each dish is designed and updated seasonally.

Dylans
The best burger bar in town, and it even offers gluten free buns. Their combinations are unique and you can even add avocado.

Güntherska Hovkonditori & Schweizeri
Everything they make here is made from scratch using high quality ingredients. They have a pretty unbeatable selection of cakes, pastries and desserts (apparently the best Kardemummabullar), and make amazing fresh bread including sourdough - which they also make into sandwiches.

Hamburgs Fisk
Real good fish place. The Swede's do seafood and shellfish well, and this place is proof if you need any.

La Parrilla
A new restaurant whos menu is influenced by Spanish and Latin American cuisine. They cook their hot meals over an open fire giving everything an intense flavour. They menu consists of vibrant, fresh starters, salads and small plates, as well as more hearty main courses.

Åkanten
The best thing about this place is the outdoor seating lining the water. Nice vibe, traditional menu and pretty ok scenery.

Nubben Cafe
An atmospheric restaurant serving traditional Nordic specialities, including Smörrebröd, Herring Cake, Wild Boar and Shrimp Salads.

Despite the fact it’s July, things still haven’t really cleared up here in Englaterre and although i’d like to think i'm sitting in parks and outside cafes cooling down on iced teas and iced lattes, I’m not. Having been modelling (and with that generally comes travelling) since the ripe age of 15, I know a thing or two about how to pack a bag. Especially one full of energising and soothing provisions to aid things like tiredness, stress, sensitive skin, damaged hair, and hunger pangs. As fashion week approaches and the talents flock over from New York to hit little London, here’s a few simple, transportable supplies i always reserve space for in my day bag, as well as my larger luggage.

During fashion week or a standard week of castings and shoots, I always keep my Zuperzozial Cruising Mug with me if I know I’m going to be constantly on the move. I also throw in some green or detox tea bags. I always have a bottle of water with me and if I make the effort i’ll shove some fresh lemon, lime, cucumber, chia seeds and aloe vera juice in there too. (If you have the room, these are pretty groovy). I have about 4 lip balms in my bag at any given time, this is because I can never find them quickly enough. Often I’ll be rummaging for so long that whoever I’m in the company of starts to wonder what it is I’m about to produce. So four makes the probability of my hand falling on some lip balm first time a lot more likely. Same goes for hairbands.

As for snacks and on-the-go nourishment, I’ll take either a pot of raw nuts, some fresh berries with a dollop of almond butter, homemade cacao snacks or a small pot of Qnola in case I don’t have satisfying options or time to stop for lunch.

As for beauty products, I’ve always been very low maintenance and not especially interested in complicated routines. Day to day, I’ll make room for a moisturiser (always, always, always Dr Hauschka’s Rose Day Cream, as it is thick and deeply nourishing but not oily, greasy or watery), eye drops and eyelash curlers. Make up wise, I use Erborian CC creme or Mac Mineral Powder instead of heavy foundations, The Body Shop Honey Bronze Highlighting Dome and / or Nars Dual Intensity Blush (in Jubilation) for my cheeks and eyes, and Estee Lauder's subtle Lash Primer. If I’m travelling, I’ll also take a dry body brush, Frank Body Scrub, and a natural face spritz which I often make myself, combining natural oils with rose water in a Muji Spray Bottle. Ren's Wake Up Wonderful will always have a place in my luggage, not only because the scent reminds me of my childhood but because it’s an overnight treatment - you don’t have to do anything but sleep. A nighttime ritual during fashion week is essential, although given that many late shows finish in the early hours of the next day, it’s not always possible. In case it is, I carefully pack one of my Skog, Diptyque, Neom or Muji candles help me to relax and refresh the air if I am cooped up in a hotel room, making it easier for me to breath, take a moment, and wind down after a long day.

Winter is hard enough without having to deal with dry, sensitive skin. As a model, I lack confidence incredibly if my skin is in bad condition. I don't like going to castings and I feel bad for the make up artists on shoots who have to deal with it! My beauty regime has always been pretty low maintenance and i don’t have a lot of products - i stick to what i know, and more importantly what my skin knows. In the winter though, I’m forced to step it up a little as i suffer from sensitive skin which, depending on the weather, can become dry, irritated and sore. I find that using loads of products in a frantic attempt to sooth it just makes things worse, clogging pores and causing blemishes, so I keep it simple by using only a select few of my favourite products. I use products made from natural, ethically sourced ingredients as much as possible. For moisturisers, I like thick, oil-based formulas, but ones that don’t leave a greasy residue. Make up wise this time of year, I only wear make up if i’m going out, or if i have meetings. I try to keep my skin completely clean if i’m just working and know i’m not going to leave the studio much. When I do, I prioritise face products to enhance my complexion and to create a healthy glow. A healthy diet is just as important as cosmetics when it comes to obtaining and maintaining radiant, healthy looking skin, but above are my beauty best friends. Say hello.

TURMERIC AND MUSTARD CREAMED CORN

Sweetcorn was something I would have eaten every day of my life when i was a child if i’d had any kind of power or control over my own decisions as a 6 year old. However, leaving my life in the much more capable hands of my mother (and father, but hmm not so much where food was involved - my mum still doesn’t know about our detours ‘thru’ Mcdonalds when it was his turn to pick me up from gymnastics on a saturday morning), I had a positively varied diet and am obviously grateful that i wasn’t forced to live off of tinned vegetables until i learned to cook. 

When i did learn to cook, and when i started my blog, sweet corn was absent. I swayed away from tinned foods and also those higher in sugars, and didn’t respect sweetcorn for its nutritional values as much as some other vegetables - like dark, leafy greens and sweet potatoes. However, this summer changed everything. I found myself in a dark bus station, transferring from one chicken bus to another, somewhere along the Guatemalan border, tired, hot, and hangry. When you’ve been on a bus designed to accommodate a quarter of the amount of people crammed onto it, gloria gaynor blasting throughout (who am i kidding, that bit was great), with only a mint from the driver to munch on (cute, but not quite sufficient), let me tell you the first thing you need after finding space to breath is a corn on the cob. i didnt know it at the time. But standing there waiting, as if she knew i was on that bus you know, on a torn apart pavement was a woman, with a smile, and a corn cart. (These things exist). Damn, that woman was serving all kinds of corn - sprinkled with lime or lemon or chilli salt or pepper, hot sauce or mayonnaise (ok maybe not). But it was everything. My friend and I abandoned our belongings - gigantic backpacks containing most of our lives - as if nothing else in that moment mattered other than getting us some of that corn. well. we got it. and damn did we love it. life was sweet, and in this moment, crouched atop our luggage eating juicy boiled corn with our hands, i knew these golden kernels of goodness were back in my life for good.

When i returned home i kept up my sweetcorn obsession, adding it to my lunch bowls, broths and other meals, as well as using it as a base for dips and soups. But since the winter is a coming, and my body is craving food not just for its energy but also its warmth, i needed to work it into a more comforting dish i could cuddle up with. this recipe is deeply warming and genuinely soothing. i love that food can do that to you. it hits every spot in the body that needs hitting. Now that we’re well into the season of making no plans to socialise whatsoever, spending time in the kitchen should become less of a chore and more a way to pass time between new series/christmas movies and online gift shopping, and to warm you up if the heatings not cutting the chill.

INGREDIENTS
Serves 2 as a main meal, 4 as a side.

400g Cooked Sweetcorn
1/2 Teaspoon Ground Turmeric
1/2 Cup Almond Milk + 1 Tablespoon to make Bean Paste
5 Tablespoons Solid Coconut Milk Fat / Cream
1/4 Teaspoon Himalayan Pink Salt
2 Tablespoons Tahini
8 Tablespoons Olive Oil or Coconut Oil (can also use ghee or butter if not vegan/dairy-free)
1 Tablespoon Dijon Mustard
1/3 Tin Cooked Cannellini Beans (any soft white beans)
1 Tablespoon Nutritional Yeast - optional
1 Teaspoon Reishi or Shilajit Mushroom powder - optional

METHOD

Start by making the bean paste/puree. Take your white beans and strain and rinse them in a sieve. Tip them into your blender or food processor and then add 6 tablespoons of your oil (save the other 2 for cooking), 1 tablespoon of your almond milk and 1 tablespoon of tahini. Blend on a medium - high speed for 2-3 minutes, until smooth. It should be runny, relatively thick, but not lumpy.

Next, cook your corn. If it is on the cob, boil the whole cobs for around 10-12  minutes and then use a sharp knife to cut away the kernels. If you are using frozen, boil for 8-10 minutes until it is juicy and soft. If you are using pre-cooked tinned corn, follow the instructions below.

In a separate saucepan to your corn, combine the remaining oil (or butter), the remaining almond milk, the coconut milk, salt, nutritional yeast and reishi or shilajit, if using, and mix with a wooden spoon. Stir over a medium - low heat and gradually add the cannellini bean mixture, stirring constantly. Once the sweetcorn is cooked, drain the water and add the corn to the milk mixture. Stir constantly and simmer for 3-4 minutes. Add the mustard, to taste, starting with a little amount and building up the flavour as you desire. Simmer for a further 10-12 minutes, to allow the mixture to thicken.

Serve hot with cooked quinoa, cubed avocado, shredded spinach and alfalfa sprouts, or other green vegetables - raw, boiled or sautéed. Add a source of protein such as chicken breast or salmon fillet. Also enjoy cold stirred through a salad, cold quinoa or other pseudo grains, or served as a side to any savoury meal. It is delicious added to mashed avocado on gluten free toast, served with eggs and smoked salmon for breakfast, stirred through soups or served as a cold side, I imagine, at a barbecue or picnic.

RUNNING WHEN YOU'RE PRACTICALLY LOST

This morning I woke up, took one look at the sun shining through my window and thought, 'Hell, I want aaaallllll of that, every last bit'. Because, you know what? The sun doesn't shine often enough in November for you to sleep through it. I decided to run.

I've been meaning to go for a run since I arrived in the city, mainly because I like fresh air and I like to explore, and walking is too slow. My excuses for having only run once during my time here (and that was the taxi's fault) are that I've either been shooting, travelling or a bit intimidated about running around a place I don't know. What if I get lost. What if I trip. What if people just don't run that much here and assume I'm being chased. No but seriously, I didn’t want to end up running through places where all people want to do is walk leisurely and window-shop. 

I wanted to look up a route before setting off, so I tried to Google some but got bored and confused reading about road names I didn't know. I’d been told the bridges were a good place to run, so decided the only way to proceed swiftly without putting it off any longer was to find a bridge and start running. I chose the Williamsburg as it’s near to my apartment. I had no idea where I was going and expected to spend about half an hour trying to find pedestrian access, so when it only took me 8, I was already feeling good about myself. 

I read on Google for the brief moments I'd spent there that the incline is intense and that the level of the Williamsburg Bridge in terms of difficulty is ‘ difficult’. Don’t listen to them, listen to me. I am not an experienced runner - I don’t even know if I run correctly - but other than a gentle incline, the route was pretty much flat, and I didn’t want to jump off the bridge half way through if that's any encouragement. Don’t let anyone on a running forum put you off. For anyone visiting NY, I'd recommend the following route if you want to see some nice views, if you like parks and bodies of water and if you don't want anything too time consuming or intense.

I used the Nike running app to keep track of my time and distance, and ended up running over 5 miles, totally distracted by the sun, cars, subways, rivers, tennis players and a couple taking fitness photographs of each other half naked. I ran from the beginning of the bridge on the Williamsburg Side on S 5th St, over the bridge into the Lower East Side, under the bridge along Delancy towards the river, across another little bridge over the highway and into East River Park, heading left. You could run the opposite way toward the Manhattan Bridge or the Brooklyn Bridge back into Brooklyn, but I had stuff to do and things to get back for so I took a quick jog through the park along the river, and headed back over the Williamsburg Bridge to get home.

ONE WAY TO SPEND A FREE WEEKEND IN NEW YORK

A few weekends ago, I embarked upon an impulsive trip out of the city, and by 'the city' I mean New York City, but I'm imagining it in an American accent and 'the city' is just cooler.

I wanted to do something new or see something amazing, and although I would have been perfectly happy staying in 'the city', where I know what I like and I like what I know, and where there's plenty of new and amazing things to find, sometimes I get this overpowering urge to just leave all of my things, to leave what I’m used to, and go and experience something or somewhere entirely new. (This urge has always been within, but has sadly been suppressed since I started my business). It is indescribably freeing and fascinating, and somehow calming. I get this feeling that I can only describe as something similar to cabin fever when I'm in a city for too long. I get caught up in the busyness of it all, and, whilst I love cities, I hate the stress of them. (That's mainly aimed at you, London).

With so many cities and states surrounding my current location, with such little knowledge about any other them really (particularly geographically - I couldn't even tell you where Glasgow is if it wasn't for Google. But, seriously) and with several pieces of advice collected over the years, I booked the weekend off with my agency and booked a long distance Amtrak journey to Niagara Falls, NY. I had no idea what an Amtrak was either, but read on - I was pleasantly surprised.

You take the Amtrak from Penn Station, and if you’re visiting New York, and are rich with time, I highly recommended that you do. Fully aware that a 10 hour journey is enough to put most people off anything, I still find it hard to understand why there isn't more hype around this trip. I was excited to establish that Niagara Falls was so close to New York City (it blew my mind when I discovered it was actually in New York state, but I am possibly the last person to find this out so I won't go on about it now) and literally booked everything as soon as I'd gotten over all this new knowledge.

I had no idea what to expect of the train journey but the Amtrak train turned out to be more comfortable than some living rooms I’ve been in. You could sit on the floor in front of your chair for the amount of legroom you get. The chairs are huge and recline fully (literally the lazy-boy chairs of public transport). There is fast, free Wi-Fi on board for the entire journey, fully functioning power sockets, air-conditioning, heating, plenty of toilets and a café. The time spent on that train ended up being some of the best quality, uninterrupted me-time I’ve ever had. I took an early train at 7am to ensure I saw everything along the way. Leaving the city, congested highways turned all of a sudden into miles of countryside. I was surrounded by vast fields lined with copper-coloured trees, illuminated in enchanting autumnal hues by the soft morning light, which made my eyes want to melt with pleasure. Somehow that’s the most accurate way I can describe it, but I'm beginning to think it might sound more off-putting now I see it written down. I was going for the opposite effect.

The majority of the journey takes place along the Hudson River, and when I say along, I mean on. We travelled through the Hudson River Valley, in and out of several tiny yet characteristic towns including Yonkers, Albany and Buffalo, and then made our way through the incredible gorges of the Finger Lakes region. The tracks were level with the water most of the way and only the occasional caramel-coloured tree separated the carriages from the waters edge. Listening to your favourite music whilst gazing out of the window will make you feel insurmountably grateful – for life, for the world, for music, for the seat you’re sat on, for windows – for whatever. It will make you realize that when you actually consciously stop to take the things around you in, there is so much to be taken in. So many of us go about our lives not fully aware of what we're doing or where we are, and we definitely don't take time to consider and appreciate the world we are in. Or on… 

Hostels are one of my favourite accommodation options, not because they're inexpensive, and definitely not because they're comfortable, but because I genuinely feel that the people you meet and the knowledge and advice you collect from the owners of each place is invaluable – you just can't purchase that shit. I’d choose an uncomfortable nights sleep in the same room as a chatty traveller I had nothing in common with over having a hot shower and a bed that’s possibly more comfortable than mine at home. I don’t know what I’m trying to say here, but I think I’m trying to persuade you to step out of your comfort zone and embrace your inner traveller next time you go abroad.

I spent my first evening visiting the falls in the dark. It was an interesting order to do it in, because I didn’t really know what I was looking at, apart from a lot of water creating a lot of beautiful backsplash, illuminated by subtle lights shining over from Ontario. Needless to say, it was one of the most beautiful things I’d ever stood so close to. The air was so fresh I didn’t recognize it, and the spray coming off of the falls felt deeply purifying against my skin. I started at Rainbow Fall, walked along the rapids composed of the five great lakes, across a bridge onto Goat Island, along a little path, via the Bridal Veil Fall, to Luna Island, and then back onto Goat Island to Terrapin Point and the Horseshoe Fall, which joins to Canada. This is beginning to sound like the narrative of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I am aware. 

On Saturday I woke up at 6am in attempt to catch the sunrise. It was pitch black and ice cold, but the air was crisp and fresh and I went for it anyway. There was no one around and I felt like I was running through the set of a zombie movie, but I got to Three Sister Island in time to watch the sky brighten from the comfort of a boulder (and to send a photo to my two sisters back home - cute I know). The sight of the waterfalls in the daylight was blindingly beautiful, and as I peered over the railing directly into the waterfall, I understood what it meant to have you're breath just taken away.

By Midday I was joined by a lovely roommate , and after briefly acting as her tour guide, we took a boat tour directly beneath all three of the fall's. We got ponchos, we got soaked and we got selfies, then we walked over the bridge and through border control to have lunch in Ontario. It was like a Mini Las Vegas, complete with casinos, Planet Hollywood, Rainforest Café, Hard Rock Café, a waxwork museum, a Guinness world book of records museum, arcades, haunted houses, a Ferris Wheel, and a few other things I couldn't stand around long enough to absorb. We hid inside a little diner and watched kids running around high on Maple Candy and Salt Water Taffy, whilst we ate our lunch and tried to adjust to our surroundings. We stocked up on Maple Syrup and other souvenirs, watched the sun set with a completely new perspective of the waterfalls and then got the hell out of there, hoping one day to see a calmer, more genuine side to Canada.

On Sunday we ventured away from the falls, taking a brisk hike through endless woodland to the ‘Whirlpool Skate Park’, which has nothing to do with skateboarding and a lot to do with being a class six whirlpool, almost the entire width of the Gorge. It’s a lesser-known part of Niagara Falls, but just as beautiful as the rest of it, and exceptionally tranquil. 

+ Little heads up - if you're looking to keep healthy whilst you're here, my only advice is to prep and pack. Take whatever you know you'll want with you, as this is not the kind of place that has a Wholefood's Market. There is nothing healthy in the area and the main food attractions are Rainforest and Hard Rock Cafe, so unless their fully loaded burgers have recently been proven nutritious, don't expect to find a menu tailored to the gluten, grain, dairy or sugar free.

Whenever I go abroad, one thing on my mind is how I'm going to keep healthy whilst I'm away from home. No vitamix, no guarantee of a health food store (or even a local store at all, for that matter) and potentially no gluten, dairy or sugar free options - depending on my destination. If I'm away for work, the chances are I will be staying in a big city, meaning nourishing, natural necessities won't be too hard to come by. I have previously worked in New York and LA - both of which are like magnets for up and coming juice bars/raw food cafes/organic eateries, etc. However, if i'm going away for some peace and quiet, or if I'm going to be travelling non stop and constantly on the go, it's much harder to judge what sort of shops I'm likely to have access to. For that reason, I keep a few vital ingredients in my luggage to ensure that if natural food is scarce, I can either make myself an instant snack or shot of something nutrient-rich instead, or rebalance my body if I have had to settle for something I wouldn't usually eat. Above are a few of my favourite foodie travel companions. and below are some explanations. Easy to carry, compact, leak-proof and  concentrated forms of essential goodness.

. 1 . On-The-Move Qnola Pot, Cacao & Cashew, 60g | Protein-rich, gluten, grain, dairy and refined sugar free. Can be eaten dry, with yoghurt or milk and with fresh fruit.
. 2 . The Chia Co Instant Chia Oats, 45g | Not grain free, but gluten free. Whilst I rarely eat grains, I find this is always handy to slip into my carry on for long haul flights. Flavoured naturally with dried berries and sweetened only with coconut palm sugar - ideal for breakfast in the airport before a flight, or even on the go - just ask an air hostess, train cafe manager or petrol station cafe to fill the pouch up with some hot water. I like to add local fresh fruit too, and additional superfood powders like maca and acai.
. 3 . Sister & Co Coconut Oil, 60ml | fits into your 100ml limit plastic bags. Take in your carry on bag to add to meals (like porridge or soup), and to use throughout your stay away from home, to cook with. Also, ideal to use on your skin during a long haul flight if you don't mind looking a little greasy. It will help balance the moisture levels in your skin, keeping it hydrated and penetrated with minerals.
. 4 .  Four Sigma Foods Instant Cordyceps - 1 serving | instant medicinal mushroom tea in the form of tiny dissolvable granules. Just add hot water or mylk. Perfect for car journeys or long walks (especially if the weather is cold). This particular blend is good for increasing energy and promoting recovery, as the cordycep mushroom is an adaptogen, meaning it helps maintain constant energy levels, rather than just stimulating them drastically yet temporarily.
. 5 . Charcoal Powder - to keep your water purified and to remove toxins. Although in some destinations you may not be advised to drink the tap water, adding charcoal to bottled water still has incredible benefits. Charcoal is high in minerals and has the ability to bind and trap foreign materials in the body (things that shouldn't be there). It helps to detoxify the body, making it ideal if you fall ill whilst abroad.
. 6 . Inner Me Supplements - perfect for travelling as you don't have to pack glass jars that take up valuable space and could potentially break. These also come in day-allocated strips, so you'll keep organised whilst abroad, and will even know what day it is (something I fail at, whenever I'm on holiday).
. 7 . Steenbergs Turmeric - an ideal ingredient to add to smoothies, juices, salads, salad dressings, soups and hot and cold water. Deeply cleansing and detoxifying, and great for boosting the immune system.
. 8 . Loose Tea Strainer - not essential, but if I am abroad for a long time, I like to rotate a few loose herbs and spices to make cleansing tea combinations. The flavours and healing benefits are more vibrant and accessible when each ingredient is in its whole, dried form.
. 9 . Aduna Moringa Powder - a great size to take travelling. I love all superfood powders, especially maca, acai, ginseng, spirulina, baobab, reishi, chaga, shilajit and many more, but not all of them come in these handy compact sizes. Easy to add to smoothies, juices or just water for a morning boost, or an calming evening system cleanse.
. 10 . Green Juice (strictly for the journey) - don't put this in your hold luggage or you'll end up smelling of wheatgrass for your entire trip. I always take a green juice before my flight, to cleanse my body, encourage my system to get to work, and to aid digestion. Depending on the ingredients, a juice can also have calming benefits, which is great for an evening flight. This is the last chance you'll get to provide your body with a hit of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals before boarding a flight or another mode of transport, so make it a good one! Pictured above is one from my friend Madeleine Shaw's collaboration with Savse Smoothies and it is the first shop bought juice in which I've found seaweed. In a deliciously unusual way, it is much more interesting than so many other green juices out there. 
. 11 . Buckwheat Flake and Chia Superfood Mix - these are super easy to throw together. I always mix some dry buckwheat flakes, quinoa flakes, chia seeds and maca powder in an airtight sachet or container, to have on hand incase of delays. Previously, I've poured a little of the mixture into a coffee cup and asked a barista in a cafe to fill it with hot water. It's not the most delicious treat, but its something!
. 12 . Clearspring Matcha - as well as herbal or green tea bags and loose tea ingredients, I sometimes like to pack matcha powder, as it travels well and is much purer, stronger and more concentrated than the contents of a teabag.
. 13 . Purition Protein Powder - I used to add protein powder to smoothies everyday when I worked out a lot, but recently I have been less active, and I try to avoid any form of dairy unless I am exercising, and even then, it will only be in the form of whey - unfortunately not cheese. I recently discovered purition powders and love their flavour combinations. They are also the perfect size for travelling.
. 14 . Bikini Blend Protein Powder - another protein powder I recently discovered. The madagascan vanilla blend is the most delicious protein powder i've ever tried. Probably because the ingredients are all 100% natural and each product contains no sugar or artificial additives. 

+ A few other ways to prepare for long journeys or long trips away from home is to pack essentials from your pantry. Things like quinoa (some places still have no idea what you're talking about when you ask for this in a store), buckwheat pasta, dried nuts and seeds, chia seeds and gluten free oats make for quick simple meals, and things like meat, fish, fruit and veg with definitely be available at your destination, and more delicious the more locally your source them.

AND THAT'S WHAT AN ACQUA CALDA JOURNEY FEELS LIKE

I was recently invited to embark upon the Acqua Calda Journey at Grace Belgravia and I think accepting the invitation might have been one of the best decisions of my life so far. In fact, I know it was. 1 hour and a half of pure detoxification - but not on an edible level - left me feeling silky smooth, care-free, and as light as a feather. No juice cleansing, no macro-salads - not your usual kind of detox. Just the natural healing power of water, steam, temperature, salts and essential oils aimed at invigorating and refreshing you from the outside in, instead of the inside out.

The journey began with 15-20 minutes in a sauna, lying flat on my back, head resting on soft hammam towels. Sounds relaxing - and it was - but after 15 minutes, your body is actually working much harder than you think. You see it as a sedentary lie down, a time to think, breathe and do nothing, however, your body is working hard to regulate your body temperature, your breath and your circulation, and is expelling toxins in the form of sweat from every inch of your body. 

Following this, I thrusted myself into a shower with jets aiming at my hot bod from every angle, and, as instructed yet rather hesitantly, pressed the cold button. An entire minute (which I assumed would feel like an hour but which actually seemed like a second) of full power, ice cold water hit my steaming body, cooling me down from head to toe, literally taking my breath away, but somehow delightfully. The first few seconds were much appreciated as I felt a little dizzy from the sauna and was keen to cool down. I didn't even mind that I couldn't expel full breaths as my body stood obediently in a situation it would never usually willingly have found itself in. After this, I sipped on lemon infused room temperature water, sitting wrapped in the hammam towel, as my breath and body temperature rebalanced and returned to their standard rates.
After a few minutes, I was guided into an aromatic steam room with beautiful tiling and gentle lighting. Considering my body temperature and the way my cells were buzzing, it felt hotter than any other steam room I'd been in, but as I lay flat, my body and mind were becoming calmer and calmer and the intensity of the heat hardly phased me. This 20 minutes felt considerably longer than the time I'd spent in the sauna, but I powered through and when I left the room, I felt too amazing for words. The wet heat, as opposed to the dry heat of the sauna, had worked to rehydrate my body, and the high temperature had my cells and my metabolism working in overdrive. But, despite feeling slightly light headed, I felt incredible. Back in the shower, one slightly longer minute of ice cold water on my body was refreshing, energising, empowering and invigorating. The hardest part was over. My skin was alive, my metabolism was thriving, my cells were busy and my mind was clear. I felt spaced out, I felt as though I was floating on air, I felt brand new and I felt like anything was possible. The final stage of the journey was even more relaxing, and very little was required from me.

I was led into a gently heated room with a smooth marble slab in the middle, incredible scents of natural salts and essential oils and calming music. I lay flat whilst the spa manager guiding my journey smothered my body in Himalayan Pink Salts, scrubbing away at my refreshed skin, removing any dead skin and dirt, and penetrating my open pores. It was amazing. It's all well and good exfoliating in the shower, but you never quite reach every inch of your body, and I personally get tired or bored easily. She did a thorough job and my entire body felt alive and invigorated, not to mention. Once this was applied and rinsed off on both my front and back, a gentle massage was followed by a full body spirulina mask - a thick yet light, smooth, cooling natural mask consisting only of pure spirulina and water. And that was that. 15 minutes later, with my feet in a magnesium salt electrolyte-replenishing foot bath, I reflected on how much I'd changed since stepping foot in the changing rooms just over an hour before. I was so calm, my mannerisms and my speech were slow and gentle, I felt positive and happy, energised and refreshed, light, carefree and balanced. I also felt incredibly exhausted, as, although I'd theoretically done absolutely nothing, my body had been working up a sweat - literally.

It is amazing how doing so little can wear you out so much. Our bodies are so incredibly clever, and even when you think you're doing nothing, you're doing so much on a cellular level. Every second of every day your body is renewing, repairing, strengthening and recreating cells, muscles, bones and tissue, and is constantly carrying out active processes. Diet plays a huge part in fuelling these internal functions, but the skin is just as important in keeping our bodies in check. As the largest organ of the body, and the organ of expression, keeping our skin healthy is hugely important, and essential to overall health. Our skin is what protects our cells, organs and internal processes, and if our skin is unhealthy, clogged or congested, our cells will be too. That's why it is so important to take care of your skin, and to start cleansing your body physically, and not just through diet. The two go hand in hand, and it is easy to practice this kind of treatment from home. Take interval showers (going from hot to cold), make homemade scrubs, natural body masks and natural moisturisers. What you feed your skin, you ultimately feed your body, so make sure you use products with as few additives in as possible. Try not to use products you can't eat. If it isn't safe to eat, it isn't safe to be absorbed into your body through every pore.

ELEVEN MORE THINGS TO FIT INTO YOUR SUITCASE

I may not be a great example of someone who has the travel bug. Never the less, as soon as I started inter-railing the week after finishing my A-levels, and as soon as I stepped foot in a country in which I had no idea where I was going to sleep, I knew I had it. I travelled with my best friend for 7 weeks - stopping only for cone pizza's (uhhh I KNOW I am a bad person), to wallow in Hungarian Spa's, to eat Gelato whilst leaning on the Trevi Fountain or to lie awake beneath the same stars we could have gazed at in England but which somehow seemed more inspiring and full of glistening hope from a campsite in Holland. 

Since then, other commitments like my career as a model, studying part-time, starting a blog and launching a food product have restricted my freedom to travel and has somewhat tamed the bug. And although modelling allows me to travel here and there, it's just not the same when you're living in the confinement of a hotel room, and the only sights you see are inside a photo studio. However, the bug lives on, and the bug will always be there. My feet have been itching (not literally) to carry me somewhere new, and this summer I am going to let them.

But this post isn't about where I'm going, it's about where you're going, and how to stay feeling great whilst you're away from home comforts. There are hundreds of things I can think of to advise you to cram into your luggage no matter how little space there is in there. But it will always depend on what kind of trip you are taking (pleasure/business, short/long, alone/with company, rural/city break). Although a holiday should be a time to rest, relax and, some say, indulge, there are some people who may fear that a little indulgence with undo all their good work. Not to mention, if you've cut out certain foods and you give in to them whilst you're away, you may find you have become more sensitive to them, which could ultimately ruin your holiday. Also, not all holidays are for pleasure, so if you're concerned about staying well whilst you're abroad, pack wisely. The same way that eating well throughout the day depends heavily on what's in your tuppaware, travelling well depends heavily on what's in your suitcase. 

Below is a short kit checklist for active / health conscious travellers, to make travelling well a little more straightforward. The list focusses more on kit, equipment, health and beauty, rather than foodstuffs as I'm sure you can work out which foods travel well yourself. Whether you will have access to a gym or will be working out on the beach, things like skipping ropes and resistance bands take up no space in your suitcase and provide instant, achievable full body workouts if used properly.
+ Remember to fill your carry-on with edible essentials too such as raw nuts, goji berries, homemade snacks, herbal tea bags and other things you might not find at the airport or at your destination.

1 . SKIPPING ROPE . 
If you have space in your hotel room or apartment, a 10 minute skip will get your heart rate up and work your arms, abs, legs and butt. Try different variations, like throwing in some squats, skipping double time or skipping forward - if space permits. Skipping ropes take up no space, so fold them into your bag and take them to the beach / gym / park.
2 . RESISTANCE BAND .
I personally favour the privacy of my hotel room over the gym (especially in hotels or smaller apartment blocks as they tend to be really tiny). At home, I like working out in my bedroom or garden or at the local park, which means I don't have to take time out of my day for travelling either. I have a few small weights, a resistance circle and resistance bands. Resistance bands literally take up less space than a pair of socks, so are ideal for travelling. Use them around your ankles, knees or arms to intensify resistance movements and make your workout more challenging.
3 . SPORTS BRA / TRAINERS .
Sports bra's are one of the most important components of a woman's workout kit. Their importance isn't often on everybody's radar, but not wearing one, or wearing one that lacks in reliable structure or support, can be really damaging. Luckily leggings, shorts and sports tops are usually designed to be very lightweight and flexible, so you should manage to fit these things into your suitcase without much of a struggle. However, if you really don't have the space, tuck your sports bra into one corner (or wear it for the journey), and you may just have to work out in your pyjamas or some of your less slinky underwear (obviously not if you're working out in the presence of others). Where there's a will, there is always a way, even if it does involve a little nudity.
As for trainers, although these too are designed nowadays to be extremely lightweight and flexible, you still might have a tough time cramming these in amongst your clothes and other possessions. If this is the case, wear them for the journey. Going on runs whilst abroad is a great way to explore the area, and sprints are also the ideal activity for time-poor people, working your body far more than a long run. Even a 10 minute sprint in the mornings with kick start your metabolism and circulation, work all of your muscles (including activating your core more than a steady run will) and get your heart rate up.
4 . WATER BOTTLE .
Having a water bottle on hand has been proven to encourage the amount of water a person drinks throughout the day. I love these Citrus Zinger bottles as they make it super easy to infuse your water, making it not only tastier but also more nutritious, detoxifying and alkalising. I also like BRITA Fill & Go, although this takes up a little more space.
5 . SMALL WEIGHTS / ANKLE WEIGHTS .
When I work out from home, I occasionally use small weights, usually dumbbells of around 3-4kg (I've always been weak). I only do gentle exercises with them occasionally, but otherwise I tend to work with my own body weight - which means I don't have to turn my sleeping quarters into a gym, and which is also ideal for traveling. If you get too used to working out with weights, you'll miss them when you're away, and unless you have a fully equipped gym waiting at  your destination, you're not going to carry 2 hefty weights through security, or take up valuable luggage hold weight allowance which could otherwise be used for shoes - or clothes. If I go away for a short amount of time and know I will be able to go for runs, but not use a gym, I'll take ankle weights which are lighter - around 1-2kg - to intensify simple resistance workouts, jogs and sprints.
6 . SUPERFOOD POWDERS & TEA BAGS .
In some hotels, you will have a fridge and a kettle and not a lot else. I always take small sachets of superfood powders, pouches of buckwheat flakes and chia seeds to add to my water or to a bottle of juice or nut milk. Bottles make it easier as you can shake the liquid with the superfoods to make them diffuse more evenly. This makes an instant, detoxifying drink to enjoy either in the morning, just before bed or to take out the door with you. You can also add superfood powders to meals, so keep them in your bag to add to salads if the local cafes and shops don't have a lot to offer. Tea bags are also a great travel companion as each herbal blend has cleansing properties, can aid digestion, boost your metabolism or calm the body and mind. Several places I've visited haven't kept up with the popularity of green tea, so I always take my own just in case.
7 . CONTAINERS  .
If you're going to keep healthy whilst you're away, you're going to need to be prepared to make your own meals every so often. I have become all too familiar with cutting open an avocado with the teaspoon from my hotels coffee station, just to complete a shoddy, makeshift salad. But anything is possible, and if you take a small container or tuppaware with you on your travels, you will always be prepared. You can easily mix up a water or milk based chia seed pudding or overnight buckwheat flake bircher, or use your container to take a basic salad or some berries and nuts along with you for the day. Additionally, if you have a good meal at a cafe or restaurant but can't finish it all, taking the leftovers home is wise, and having a container make keeping these fresh and taking them with you wherever you're going, much easier and cleaner.
8 . SMALL CANDLES OR ESSENTIAL OILS .
If you're going away for a long time, or are going on a trip which involves a lot of traveling to and from places, I'd advise taking small, natural herbal candles to help you sleep. Choosing a candle with essential oils in can be healing both for the mind, body and soul. If your mind is calm, your body is calm, and if your body is calm, your body can sleep, and if your body can sleep, your body gets the chance to rest and reset, meaning you wake up feeling clearer, restored, repaired and more energised. I would advise taking essential oils but be wary of them leaking. Only take them if there is no chance for them to smash in your bag, and ensure the seal is not yet broken. Candles are safer. I like NEOM, Ren and Neal's Yard.
9 . EYE MASK .
Changed my life, and competes strongly with the ones that aeroplane's provide. Ideal for travelling on planes, sleeper trains, coaches or as a passenger in a car, and also if your sleeping arrangements are distracting, not dark enough, or let in light far too early in the mornings. I love my House of Hackney Palm Print Mask.
10 . PULLABLE OIL . 
These are ideal for travelling, especially if you are going to be in and out of airports, train stations and coach stations. It saves you having to carry toothpaste everywhere you go and forgetting it doesn't qualify for your >100ml bag, and also saves you taking a jar of coconut oil with you too, which can break or leak far more easily than these. Oil pulling doesn't require a sink, which means you can oil pull on your walk to the station, if you take a break in the middle of nowhere during your road trip, or on your morning run (as long as you find somewhere dignified to spit it out afterwards). Oil pulling not only cleans teeth, refreshes breath and effectively kills oral germs and bacteria, it has also been known to cleanse the system, kickstart the metabolism and cure diseases. Many diseases are influenced by the mouths ecology and bacteria, and this bacteria clings to the oil and dissolves into it (this is why it is important NOT to ever swallow the pulled oil). Toothpaste also works to remove this, but unless your toothpaste is natural and sugar free, there is no guarantee that it provides the best care for your mouth.
11 . PACKING-FRIENDLY SUPPLEMENTS .
Every time I go away I find it difficult to decide which supplements to take, or whether to take any at all. Whilst I put my health first in most situations, I'm not always so willing, and having to cram awkward shaped glass jars in between layers of clothes and shoes just messes up any system in my suitcase (if ever there was one). In the past I have split supplements into small plastic pouches, or combining an equal amount of a range of supplements in one jar to reduce the space they take up. I'm not much of a facial person. I mean, I'm facial in the sense that I have a face, but I'm not a 'go for a facial' kind of girl. My beauty regime has always been pretty minimal to be honest. I am grateful for being blessed with a pretty easy, cooperative complexion. My skin, although sensitive and dry at times, has never been especially oily, greasy, spotty or problematic. 

I had my first facial when I was 21, and since then, I've had only 1 other. Between the two, there are very few similarities. I'm almost trying to forget the first one, to make more space in my mind to hold on to the memory of my second one, which took place at Content Beauty, London. Calling it a facial actually seems like an unjust way to describe it. It was so so so much more. So much more.

I enjoyed a casual stroll down Marylebone high street - a calm, very traditional street in London dotted with independent cafes, restaurants and shops - before ending up outside the shop. A small, characteristic store with a picturesque shopfront, Content Beauty is a real one off. A tiny shop with fully stocked shelves, it is more like an apothecary, or something out of a Harry Potter film - with interesting jars, products, ingredients and other contraptions on shelves and bookcases that reach the ceiling, grabbing and keeping hold of your attention. You could easily spend days in there, browsing the products, reading the labels of each one, or talking to the specialists who stand calmly on the shop floor to offer advice to anyone who needs it, but at the same time not imposing on your journey around the shop or following you around offering unwanted advice. It is like a library of beauty products, and everything in there is organic, natural and lovingly made. There is so much to discover.

I was so mesmerised by the products that I almost forgot I was there for a facial. A beautiful specialist, with a really calming, gentle air about her, approached me by the Dr Alkaitis products, and guided me down a tight staircase to a treatment room under the shop. Beneath the shop was even more tranquil, with an impossibly chilled atmosphere and mesmerising aromas. I already felt better about life in general.

I removed my top and climbed onto a cloud-like bed, resting my head in the soft, trusty hands of this stranger who was about to change my life. I'd opted for the Dr Alkaitis Skin Food Facial Treatment - which combines organic, enzyme-rich, natural ingredients with gentle techniques, as well as a facial massage, to reduce inflammation, calm skin conditions, revitalise the complexion, remove impurities, enhance the skins natural state, and encourage the skins natural functions.

The treatment deeply cleanses and clarifies congested skin, at the same time as nourishing and calming any sensitive, inflamed or irritated skin.

There are several phases to the treatment:
. Remove make up, using Dr Alkalis Make-Up remover.
. Cleanse skin with Purifying Cleanser / removed with organic muslin cloth.
. Exfoliate / with a natural, gentle peel (consisting of organic oat buds, blueberry, bilberry, strawberry, raspberry, blackberry, barley grass, turmeric, cats claw, and enzymes lipase, lactase, protease, amylase and bromelian), to encourage impurities and blemishes to become more visible. 
. Pre-extraction prep / this includes a layer of active raw manuka honey applied to the skin before a suction technique is used to gently loosen dirt or open pores. Manuka honey has may benefits for the body both internally and externally. In this instance, it works as an antiseptic and anti-bacterial layer to ensure the skin is clean before the extraction phase.
. Gentle manual extractions - optional / basically a gentle yet accurate and determined process in which any blackheads are removed, eliminating toxins and rebalancing the skins natural processes.
. Soothing gell applied with organic cotton pads / to calm down any areas that were affected during the extraction phase.
. Facial massage / using organic treatment oil (containing turmeric to reduce inflammation as a result of the prior stages of the treatment). This also includes an impossibly relaxing upper body massage of the head, neck, arms and shoulders - which I never wanted to end.
. Finishing mask / using the Universal Mask by Dr Alkaitis. This is literally like putting food on your skin, and if you learn about how certain ingredients can compliment and care for your skin, you can pretty much make your own face masks and scrubs using the contents of your fridge, and a few superfood powders. This one includes oat buds, organic grass juice complex (incl. kamut, alfalfa and wheatgrass), sea vegetable complex (incl. chlorella, dulse, spirulina, ainu-wakame and sea palm), Goats milk protein, vegetable complex (incl. carrots, cabbage, kale, sweet potato, broccoli, cucumber, ginger and parsley - amongst others) and a seed complex (incl. amaranth, flax, soy, buckwheat and millet - amongst others).
. Final massage phase, followed by the application of a replenishing serum, eye cream and organic day cream

After the treatment, I stayed in the shop, learning a little more about the products, and about the dangers of many conventional beauty products. I learnt about how our skin is the largest organ, and is a reflection of what is going on internally. It also acts as the transport route for all kinds of material - both good and bad - to be absorbed into the body. One of the greatest (and easiest) things you can do for your skin is to use 'food-state' beauty products, or simply just food. You shouldn't really put anything on your skin that you can't eat, as harmful chemicals in cosmetic products will still end up inside your body, regardless of whether you eat them or absorb them. Think about it next time you're shopping for new moisturisers or make up, and treat the ingredients label just as you would your food items.

Things were fine before my facial. My skin wasn't especially difficult, my beauty regime was pretty basic, and I luckily had never been especially troubled by blemishes or acne. But things were definitely better afterwards (sometimes you are so comfortable with what you are used to that you don't even know there is room for improvement). I left with a glow, and I might have taken some exciting new products with me too, and with the introduction of just a few simple ingredients to my beauty routine, my skin is now not just healthy, but content.

Estée Lauder is one of the largest cosmetics organisations in the world. What started as a passion of Josephine Esther "Estée" Mentzer's in 1946 has now developed into a leading global company, concentrated on perfecting the art of timeless make up, skin care and terribly clever beauty secrets. Estée herself established three key principles when she launched her initial range (which consisted of just four products), which remain valued essentials within the company today: creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship. Her simple premise was a genuine belief that every woman could be beautiful, and in turn, feel it too. 

In an interview in 1980, Estée is asked what the great secret to vitality is:

"Well, for me, it's being with people... and having a good breakfast. If you eat a good, nourishing breakfast, you're energised for the rest of the day. You have no idea how a good meal can change your point of view and help you see the bright side of things". 

I think we'd have gotten on well, Estée and I. If I could invite her over for a bowl of Qnola in return for some of her inspiring beauty tips, I would. Unfortunately, this isn't an achievable dream, so instead, I've teamed up with the masterminds behind the Estée Lauder of today, to celebrate The Estée Edit coming to the UK this month. The Estee Edit is a popular online platform showcasing inspirational people from all fields of work. You'll meet chefs, get to know models and discover new and exciting projects and entrepreneurs just by navigating around the site for half a minute. I worked closely with the Estée team to devise an exclusive, nutritious breakfast menu with their key concerns in mind - to support healthy skin, reduce signs of ageing, cleanse the body on a cellular level and to energise the body and mind. We then hand-delivered each box to ensure people woke up well and started the day right.

My Estée Edit recipes use revitalising, hydrating, natural ingredients rich in vitamins and minerals. They support cell renewal, cleanse the body of toxins, keep skin hydrated and increase the amount of healthy fats (omega 3 fatty acids) in the diet, in just one mouthful. We spent a day shooting the recipes so that the team could taste everything and learn a little more about the benefits of each ingredient. We shot how-to videos to show how each nutritious side is made, from scratch (find these here). The recipes are really simple, and only require a few easy-to-find ingredients, a few pieces of equipment and a few minutes preparation time. We spent the day in a beautiful studio in East London, close to my home. After breakfast at Dishoom, one of my favourite brunch spots in the city, we got straight into make up with Nikki Wolff - a cosmetic magician. After waking me up gently with a facial massage, she made me look and feel as if i'd been literally reborn. E S T E E    E D I T   Q N O L A 

To celebrate the launch of The Estée Edit here in the UK, the wonderful Estée Lauder team asked me to curate a nutritious breakfast that Estée herself would approve of. As such a valued meal of the day, I wanted to create a morning meal full of vitamins, nutrients, antioxidants and pure energy. I developed a bespoke flavour of qnola using their favourite ingredients - a beautifying blend of Organic Quinoa, Cinnamon, Vanilla, Antioxidant-Rich Dried Pomegranate Seeds, Golden Linseeds, Raw Almonds, Chia Seeds and and Coconut. Estee Lauder have also recently launched a 'Nutritious' Range which uses Pomegranate and Cucumber, which inspired my other recipes below.


C U C U M B E R   C O C O N U T   M I L K 

INGREDIENTS

2-3 Cucumbers
1 cup water (if you don't have a juicer)
1 1/2 Cups Fresh Almond or Coconut Milk (preferably homemade)
Fresh Mint, or Aloe Vera Juice - optional

DIRECTIONS

Start by making the cucumber juice. If you have a juicer, juice the cucumbers until you have 1 cup of juice (you can save the rest to add to soups, stews, smoothies or juices). If you don't have a juicer, grate the cucumbers and blend them on a high speed in your blender. Once the cucumber has broken down completely, pour the juice through a sieve or a nut milk strainer, into a jug.
Then blend 1 cup of this cucumber juice with your choice of almond or coconut milk. Add mint or aloe juice, to taste, if you want to increase the health benefits of this drink.

P O M E G R A N A T E   S Y R U P

INGREDIENTS
1 Medium Pomegranate
1/2 Cup Water
5-6 Tablespoons Organic Honey or Agave Syrup
1 Tablespoon Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice
1/2 Teaspoon Ground Ginger - optional

DIRECTIONS
Cut the pomegranate and carefully retrieve the seeds. Warning: this can be messy! Blend the seeds and water on a high speed in your blender, for 1-2 minutes. Pour through a sieve or cheesecloth and put the strained mixture into a medium saucepan over a high heat. Add the honey and lemon juice and bring to boil, then reduce the heat to a low temperature and simmer. It can take up to 40 minutes before the mixture begins to thicken, depending on the exact ratios of each ingredient. If you prefer it sweeter, add more agave or honey which will quicken the process. If it seems too sweet, add more lemon juice to neutralise. Stir constantly.
Once you are happy with the consistency, pour into a jug, jar or airtight container and allow to cool.

Despite the name, Juice Baby is by no means infantile. This place is more like the daddy of raw food, and with a menu I thought I would never find this side of the pond, it is so ahead of the game. Their Raw Pad Thai is like no other, their millionaire shortbreads are so nourishing it's like biting into a slice of happiness, and the chia seed pudding, with an abundance of homemade toppings, is Spot. On. And what I love about it most is how silently it has crept onto London's health food scene.

The atmosphere is wonderful, and something I find really important in any kind of eatery, especially a healthy one. People can easily feel intimidated entering a health food store, feeling under educated or out of place if they aren't a regular juicer with a sturdy E3 shot schedule. But Juice Baby is calm, laid back and has beautiful interiors that don't make you feel on edge about spilling a little kale juice. This place could very easily be your best friends living room.

Their menu is what sets this place apart from other health food jaunts across the UK. They've gone one step further than a few bliss balls and a box of courgetti, offering amazing sea kelp noodles and salads with vibrant, tasteful dressings, delicious chocolate treats, homemade nut milks, juices, smoothies and shots, and other snacks that fit perfectly into a busy lifestyle with little time to dedicate to cooking. They make salads instantly more delicious with simple dressings and dips, and their lunch boxes are full of a combination of ingredients, making them exciting and interesting, as opposed to plain, dry and limp-looking. They take traditional favourites like thai noodles and mexican chilli and rework them with natural, raw ingredients, brimming with life as well as flavour.

The staff are lovely, the vibe is admirable, the owner is passionate and, although it feels like the other side of the world from where I live, it is definitely worth the journey. No noisy coffee machines, no loud chart shows, just calming interiors, chilled music and a lovely energy. Sit and enjoy their salads or order from their breakfast menu, or if you're in a rush, empty their fridges and fill your bags.

It didn’t take me long to decide how I felt about The Detox Kitchen – the newest addition to london’s community of healthy eateries. To see a large bowl of fresh guacamole on the counter as I walked in was enough to get me interested. A menu the size of an entire wall boasting revitalising juices as well as a huge variety of food had me quite literally transfixed. And noticing anthropologie paraphernalia in every corner - as if at home in my own kitchen - made me want to sit down and never leave. Which was lucky, as it’s obvious upon entry that grab-and-go is hardly their ethos. With a sense of calmness and a chilled atmosphere (just what I like), natural light coming in through a huge window overlooking the cobbles of kingly street and amazing service, it couldn’t be more inviting.

I arrived at The Detox Kitchen late on their second day of business. Only one lonely bowl of salad remained and the fridge was looking smugly empty. I took this as a good sign and quickly grabbed a pot of Quinoa with Cashew Pesto before anyone else did. I also bought some mind-blowing Wild Garlic and Spinach soup to take home with me. As a quinoa addict this is a strong statement but the quinoa pot was one of the best quinoa combinations I had ever tried. The flavours were amazing and the ingredients were ‘so fresh and so clean’ – in the words of Outcast. My only regret was not having arrived earlier, as I spent most of my time gazing at the menu and thinking about their egg rolls. Luckily for me there remained some baked goods on the counter so I tucked in to a Banana Muffin, which of course was delicious and light, and left me feeling clean – not a effect many muffins can have on people.

I love anywhere with salads on display because you know what you’re getting and your decisions are visually educated. The prices here too are very affordable, unlike many specialist health joints that the general public view as only places the rich and famous visit. You can take away handpicked salad boxes for lunch, choose from a selection of small pots or trail-mixes to take on-the-go with you if you are time-poor, busy or travelling a lot, or stock up on healthy staples to take home, like their large pots of soup or bags of cereal. And if you have more time, sit inside and watch the world go by over a fresh pot of tea and a wholesome plate of food. The drinks menu is also phenomenal with a large selection of smoothies and juices. On my second visit I had a Lemon & Ginger tea, and half expecting a soggy Twining’s tea bag I was excited to see vibrant, brightly coloured ginger slices and the juiciest chunks of fresh lemon floating atop my hot water. This attention to detail was enough to confirm that anything you find at The Detox Kitchen will be as fresh, pure and wholesome as it possible can be.

The Detox Kitchen is definitely one of my favourite new eateries in London and I can’t wait to go back for a proper wholesome lunch. I love their philosophy and what they stand for, I love the location and the interior of the eatery, the people are incredibly friendly and the food is spot on. The menu features pretty much all of my favourite meals and snacks, meaning I can finally eat out and not have to redesign the entire menu or mix and match a selection of sides in order to have something half healthy. They have mastered the balance between eating healthily and still being able to enjoy your food. There are no skimpy salads and nothing is disallowed - just lovingly made food created by people passionate about real, nourishing, feel-good ingredients. The salads are interestingly dressed vegetable dishes - as opposed to bland, wilting salad leaves commonly associated with ‘healthy eating’ - and the brownies by the till – which I hear they are already gaining a reputation for – are a sure sign that The Detox Kitchen lifestyle is not a boring, monotonous, tasteless one. Founder, Lily Simpson points out “Healthy food can be brilliantly tasty. It can fill you up, and yes, you can have pudding”. That pretty much sums it up.

Visit their website for information on the delivery side of the business. They offer fresh food plans delivered to your door whilst you sleep, so all you have to do to keep healthy and feel great is plate up. You can choose from a selection of packages all of which consist of fresh, wholesome ingredients developed by their team of nutritionists and top chefs. Expect to start your day with a vibrant shot of wheatgrass or a greens juice, enjoy a wholesome protein or vegetarian evening meal and allow yourself a satisfying, guilt-free dessert.

A SHED YOU WILL WANT TO LIVE IN

Tucked away on a roadside in Nottinghill is not much more than, well, a shed. What caught my eye was the beautiful, cosy garden patio covered in fairy lights and foliage in front of the building. It looked like a tiny house in Italy until i took a closer look and realised there was a menu on the wall, and a damn good one at that.

This was a one off in terms of how our usual dinner plans go. We had never heard of The Shed, we hadn’t been recommended to go there and we hadn’t read any reviews about it. So it was a pleasant surprise, once we’d finished a good 8 sharing plates of mind blowing food, to find gushing reviews of it online when we got home. A very happy coincidence, and perhaps the most successful impulsive dinner choice I’ve ever made.

Inside, the atmosphere was intimate and cosy, and as it was a Saturday, it was humming with hungry locals. They all obviously knew what to expect because there was a sense of excitement among the place. We, on the other hand, had to be talked through the procedure and then wait patiently, half expecting to be disappointed.

The menu is divided into Mouthfuls, Slow cooking and Fast cooking. Each heading is quite self explanatory, but this was a new breakdown of food for us, so it took us a while to order. They recommend that you share each plate, which is small, or order more than one per person if your companion is not a sharer. We ordered 6 to begin with, between two of us, and got stuck in to each dish as and when they arrived, tasting each unique, flavoursome dish and salivating over them together. Each dish was different which kept our tastebuds amused and satisfied, but also seemed to send them into overdrive, as we ended up ordering two additional plates. We couldn’t stop.

The dishes were controversial combinations of amazing ingredients, including chorizo puree on giant asparagus, and cured pollock with lemon mayonnaise and marigold. The fantastic menu changes daily and is made up of Sussex produce sourced from the owners’ youngest brother (whose roots are firmly planted in Nutbourne, as a farmer) and other local suppliers. “Growing, foraging, great cooking and great company have always been the order of the day, and this ethos has been brought to life at The Shed”; by three extremely talented brothers.

DISHOOM | THE DISHIEST PLACE IN LONDON

Let me introduce to you a brand new brunch; the kind where a white dusty bloomer is replaced by warm, crispy naan and any sight of a builders tea is enriched with a hundred spices you can’t pronounce the name of. Upon entering Dishoom – a sixties style Bombay diner off a little Shoreditch (or soho) side street - a multitude of aromas swarm towards you, possessing you so much that you momentarily forget how to say ‘table for two please’. Dizzied by the spiced air and in awe at the effortless, inimitable interiors, my good friend Charlotte and I followed our waitress to a comfy cushioned booth glowing in the morning sun. The waiters are incredibly relaxed (so we got on very well here, bleary eyed on a Sunday) and imply the most popular dishes, without imposing on your decisions. My word of advice is to trust them; you will thank them later.

We go instantly weak at the knees at their description of the chai latte and take them up on the offer whilst we scan the menu in confusion. Naan bread at 10am in the morning? Spiced tomato relish at 10am in the morning? Green chilli omelette? At 10am in the morning? We thought we’d got it so wrong, having more or less professed in the art of hunting down london’s top brunch spots until now. However, we stuck it out - gave it a chance - mainly because we trusted the décor, the chic gold lamp that sat between us, and the look on fellow customers’ faces as they saw their Bun Maska swerving through the restaurant towards them, eyes gleaming as they envisaged it bathing in their perfectly cooled chai, just moments away from being drowned in warm, chocolately spices. 
Our chai arrived and we both closed our eyes in slow motion as we took a sip, reopening them with a synchronised ‘hmmm’, before ordering a bowl of nutty house granola and a baked egg naan roll. We weren’t sure what to expect but as soon as the granola came we knew the egg naan would not disappoint. It was hands down the best granola I’ve ever eaten; perfectly roasted, perfectly sweetened and spiced to, well, perfection. The buttery crunchiness went hand in hand with the creamy chai, and the table was emptied before the egg naan arrived. We were half expecting some kind of multicultural Indian French toast but were pleasantly surprised after our sweet starter to receive a savoury serving of eggs, tomato and fresh coriander wrapped in thin, baked naan bread. The ingredients were so fresh and the naan was so light and crispy and evident in every mouthful it had been cooked just seconds before delivery. Never before have i tried a naan bread so thin yet so chewy and somehow able to melt in your mouth.

I soon returned to Dishoom for dinner having eyed the menu and noticed pretty much all of my favourite foods, as well as a signature house dahl which needed to be done. There is always a queue and due to inevitable popularity you cant book on weekends. However, with a serious selection of cocktails and small plates, no one could feel too put out waiting at the atmospheric bar, in a huddle of excited customers in happy-weekend-mode. I had a chilli, rose and pomegranate martini which sounds ominous but really Hit. The. Spot. The dinner itself is definitely worth the wait if only for the green coriander chutney which I always have to order thirds of. A sweet tangy companion for the gigantic masala prawns and dry chargrilled chicken tikka, and a perfect dip for a fish cluster or okra fries. The abundance of flavours and spices are strong and mind-blowing at the same time, it’s almost impossible for your taste buds to keep up, and ordering small plates to share you get the bonus of dipping and mixing one juicy dish with another. The dinner was much healthier than the breakfast, with plenty of protein dishes, a few vegetarian options and sides of curried greens. Just go easy on the rice, you order several plates to share and I would honestly say you don’t really need it. If anything, get the garlic naan, which is thin, light and seemingly easy on the metabolism, and perfect for mopping. 
I will warn that you get so caught up in a frenzy of making your way around each dish and experimenting with mixing and making all sorts of different, flavoursome combinations that you kind of forget you’re eating and that your body has a limit. Every time i have eaten here for dinner i have sat back with a sigh having tried almost everything with everything, twice, and then realised that my stomach isn’t so impressed with my behaviour. Everything is so new and all the flavours are so different that it is almost like a game rather than a mealtime. The portions are really valuable sizes and with lots of protein you get full quickly. Thankfully they only have two ‘sauce’ curries on the menu whilst everything else is chargrilled and dry so nothing if too rich or creamy (apart from the dahl) to leave you feeling sluggish at all. What you feel is satisfaction, if also a little over-indulgence. 
To finish, cinnamon ice cream is recommended or coconut sorbet on a stick, if your mouth is too on fire for a hot chai. Alternatively, a Lassi is a fitting choice, and ultimately sooths the mouth, which would otherwise be buzzing all night long.

Shoreditch is my favourite of the two, more spacious and atmospheric than the Soho restaurant, and has a bigger bar area for your weekend wait. 7 Boundary, London, E2 7JE.
