Monthly Essentials ~ August & September

Essentials, Monthly Essentials, Natural Livingdanielle copperman2 Comments

So, the blog has been a little inexcusably neglected over the past few weeks. I’ve been travelling hard and working even harder, and I always prefer to give my full attention to this space, rather than bashing something out half-heartedly. There is so, so much I want to share with you all; so many blog posts in my drafts, so many shoots and videos and recordings scheduled, but it’s super hard to make time at the moment. In the meantime, a combined post to share all my favourite essentials and discoveries from August & September; 2 for the price of one, so I’m forgiven?

The incredible Fiona Burgess of Woman’s Hour performed ‘Dancing in the Dark’ at my dear friend Marina’s wedding last month in the South of France. It is everything.

I’ve been obsessed with Goop for years and years and years, and I hang on pretty much every word Gwyneth has to say. Imagine my excitement, then, when they opened their first pop-up store in West London (where it all began) and launched UK shipping through their online shop. I celebrated the launch with the Goop team earlier this month with a browse around the store followed by dinner just down the road at Farmacy. Maybe I’ll just move there?

JOMO is the new FOMO.

Slow watches; watches with just the hour hand, to make you conscious of the time but less obsessed or stressed and restricted by it. They also happen to be beaut.

Jolene just opened after much anticipation, and just a stones throw away from my house in N16. Just off Newington Green, Jolene is an amazing bakery, serving incredible baked goods, insanely good coffee and lunch and dinner menus, serving fresh, local, seasonal, hand-made small plates, ideal for sharing. The menu changes daily so check in on Insta before you go or embrace the surprise.

Since joining Model Mafia, I’ve connected with some super special souls. Sinead Bovell is one of them. Listen to her story here about changing your life by taking control of it. My favourite quote: “We talk about our dreams and careers as if they should be separate. We think we’re confined to one lane. But we’re not. It’s the integration of all of your multiple passions, your life experiences and your professional experiences that support you in creating something that doesn’t exist. And something that you are truly passionate about. Your dream job should be an extension of your life and who you are. And that usually means you’ll have to create it yourself”. I love this. Our careers ultimately become our lives, and since they take up most of our time, why not work towards finding a career you truly love and enjoy, or creating one for yourself if it doesn’t already exist. It is possible if you firstly work hard and find not only your passion, but your purpose too. The rest will come.

Your October energy forecast.

One of the great things about fall/winter is ALL THE LAYERING WE CAN DO.

Qnola is now available to buy on Ocado. That means nationwide shipping and simple, one-stop shopping.

It’s time to invest in some ‘power pants’. I’m currently loving cord wide legs and suit trousers.

Discover indie beauty brands with Showcase Beauty. I’ve collaborated with the team to bring you a 10% discount; just enter code ‘danielle10’ at checkout.

P.volve - something I’d only tried online and from a distance until now - hosted a soft launch in London this month, and will be back to do more exclusive workouts in due course. For now, try their online video subscription service. I don’t usually love online workouts as I lack the motivation and actually push myself hard enough, but P.volve is more about smaller, slower movements, and I can honestly do these workouts anytime, anywhere, no matter how early it is, how tired I am or how little time I have. It’s such a unique method and I’m addicted.

05 Studio swimwear; I want it all (especially this), and it’s not even summer anymore. Run by a super creative and conscious Bulgarian duo, everything is so effortlessly yet carefully put together, using high quality materials and ethical practices.

I have too many mugs but I still can’t help eyeing up these.

These look goooood. Can anyone in Aus vouch for them?

Halloween is fast approaching.

Saw this on a friends bathroom wall and the message really resonated with me. Why are we al so frantic, as if we are in a race? We do not understand that there is no winner.

Favourite new brush. (Disclaimer: more bamboo).

I met the truly wonderful Madeleine from Astrology For Artists. Check her out. She holds some pretty amazing workshops and offers private sessions and readings.

A new video about the state of our environment, to get you thinking (although its from 2009 but its new to me).

Obsessing over everything here. Such wonders.

I struggle to find good, pure and honest make up removers. I’ve just tried The Body Shop’s camomile blend, made with natural ingredients, and made without animal testing. It’s up there with coconut oil, y’all.

My good friend recently launched a new loungewear brand, designed for slowing down, settling in and switching off. Super comfy stuff.

This is a pretty interesting little test to do on yourself. How self-actualised are you?

ADORE. Lets keep this shell/pearl vibe going through winter, plzzzz.

New podcast alert.

Just added one of these to my home and gym workout routines. Next level, I’m telling you.

Addicted to this Twin Ball self massage tool. I’m a big advocate of massage, and self massage is so easy already, but is so much more achievable and easy to do with tools like this.

Discover Kukui Cream.

🙏🙏🙏.

I’ve been hit with my first cold in years, I think due to overworking, change in seasons and elevated anxiety and panic attacks threatening to shut down my body completely if I don’t just CHILL. These have helped so far.

No matter how small your city apartment is, you can never have too much home decorations and kitchenware (at least thats what I keep telling myself):

This vase. Yessssss H&M Home.

Bamboo everything.

I can see this being added to everyone’s wish list.

This vase (and shell anything these days tbh).

You can never, ever have too many bowls. Seriously. Seriously. No, but seriously.

The Alchemist has been on my list for ages but is definitely next if things go my way. If only I had enough time to finish the books I’m already hoarding first, and get on with this one.

The boot obsession begins.

Have been loving the Ballet Barre and Box & Burn class @RefineryE9

All-natural wooden razor? yuhhh please

This All-natural coconut fibre dish scrubber is completely compostable and entirely, in no way synthetic

Trying to live more plastic free? This will come in handy.

Summer is for Miiro Ice Lollies - dairy free, gluten free, all-natural, no refined sugar, no artificial flavourings - its aaallllllll good

My new favourite online vintage destination is One Scoop Store. The founder buys all her (mostly designer) stock second-hand from charity shops, markets, car boots or private clients who have surplus clothing. Her mission is to reduce landfill and reduce the amount of clothes being thrown away by finding items a new owner. I got some incredible Gucci loafers and a hoop top which I'll share soon.

I'm trying this next week and I can't freaking wait. My Mum has been having regular treatments for about a year now and I don't know why I didnt think to try it sooner. It sounds amazing, is all-natural and apparently reduces visibility of pores and strength of hairs over time (also reduces the risk of ingrown hairs too ewww)

Aquafaba mayonnaise is about to change your life. Made with the water from cooked chickpea (tinned is best), it is one of the easiest things I've ever made and so, so needed to see any vegans or anyone more preferable to plant based food through barbecue season.

These dungaree's - so comfy and all ethically / hand made

Lucy Williams x Love Stories is a viiiiibe

I am now a proud owner of bamboo cutlery and I pledge to keep it on my person at all times to avoid using plastic knives and forks whilst out and about. You should too

There's some funky stuff going on over here

I recently joined a friend of mines all-female creative agency, Female Narratives. Check them out; they have a portfolio of incredibly talented and inspirational women who you can either follow, connect with or work with; or just read their stories and be inspired.

I've finally sorted my life out and started using Natural Cycles. Full blog post coming soon; leave a comment if you have any specific questions you'd like to ask about it. Disclaimer: I'm never looking back

I've never enjoyed sleeping so much. I genuinely wake up feeling happier and more content than I've ever felt at the sound of my alarm going off, thanks to Casper #CasperAndMe

Charities like these 🙏

New skincare on the block

Hypnotherapy with Luca Bertali was a wonderful experience and has left me feeling subconsciously stronger and more confident. He works with people on more specific issues such as addictions and traumas but also offers more general support with self worth and confidence

We've been working away on a little zine which we filled so much it's practically a small book. Named Well Being & Other Stories, it contains a collection of recipes, rituals and words and contributions from inspiring women from all over the world. Based on the theme of Transformation, and divided into sub-topics of Earth, Self and Community, it is been curated with the intention of serving as a manual and guide to inspire a more grounded and abundant way of living, and to encourage you to welcome change and transformation and enjoy it. Available in paperback or downloadable PDF version

The Basics Store is baccccck yo. My Marina is such a talented bunny and she has basically crammed all of my favourite things into one beautiful shop that I want to live in. 15 Monmouth Street, Central London ✌️

Free-From All-natural deodorant that actually looks legit

Too many great earrings

I've teamed up with Marysia and every single item I put on feels like heaven and makes me feel almost the same way

If I were a store, this is what it would be like

Got both eyes on this Mango playsuit

May Essentials ~ 2018 (ft. Cannes and LA)

Travel, Monthly Essentialsdanielle coppermanComment

There's a fine line between healthy and too healthy.

Have just booked to take part in a beach clean up in July. This website has events all over the UK coastline; it's free, you'll get some fresh air and you'll make a big difference to the cleanliness of our oceans.

Michael Nau sings to my soooooul.

Crystal water bottles; perhaps a little extra but why not? One ~ Two.

This vegan backpack by Matt & Nat came with me on several trips and serves as a perfectly sized, simply designed and super chic carry on.

Everything from Lunya looks so idyllic. Not only beautiful but also designed to improve sleep. Get it here now.

I never sleep on planes but I took a dose (or 3) of this melatonin tincture - purchased from Erewhon - and, no word of a lie, I slept 9 hours straight on the flight from LA - LDN.

How and why to keep your bedding fresh during the summer.

These went down well on my instagram feed last week.

So into illustrated ceramics like this these days. And pretty much everything on Trouva tbf.

Major Summer Vibes.

Love love loved this on my long haul to LA.

This dream dress.

My summer reading list: Anatomy of the SpiritMolecules of Emotion, Heart Talk, Jane, Why social media is ruining your life, Holding Up the Universe.

New favourite raw chocolate bar (spiked with maca and lucuma, holaaaa).

Haven't taken this or this off since I put them on.

Willlllooowwwww.

Cannes

Toward the middle of May, I spent a couple of days in Cannes with Grey Goose. I'm not usually much of a drinker, but I jumped at the opportunity to learn more about the inspiring brand and their unique products (all of which are made with single-origin French ingredients, traceable from field to table), all whilst celebrating the 71st Film Festival. Here's a few of my favourite discoveries from my time there:

The most idyllic lunch spot, we spent an afternoon on the island of Île Sainte-Marguerite. Definitely work a day trip into your visit if you're ever Cannes-bound.

Was spoilt with a new Away suitcase for the trip - my favourite carry on case due to its built-in charger.

Grey Goose on tap; sounds intense but actually served as such a light refreshment and, due to the purity of the recipe, I didn't feel hungover once. We were joined with Grey Goose global ambassadors who curated a selection of incredible cocktails throughout the weekend, which really inspired me to step up my beverage game this summer.

LA

Finally had a flick through Cap Beauty's new book, made a visit to their store and discovered more about their Daily Hit cannabinoid and hemp oil - where all products are 100% natural and teeming with nutrition and life force. Yes. Yes yes yes yes yes.

Met the lovely Nitsa from Sunpotion and chatted all things tonic herbs, traceability and shaking up the supermarket shelves.

Using this Everyday Oil, well, everyday.

These helped me adjust to LA time, big time.

Loved Dang's Salted Caramel coconut chips when I last visited the US, and arrived to find they now do an even better Chocolate and Sea Salt blend. Dangerously good.

Made it to Sqirl on our last day for some pre-flight nourishment. Get the Sorrell Pesto bowl (and avoid mistaking their sugar syrup for olive oil and douse your meal in it like I did).

Def a fave. All dishes are natural, gluten free and made without refined sugar.

Gjelina never disappoints. When we rocked up at 11pm delirious from jet lag on our first day, their pea and burrata toast and mushroom pizza hit all the right spots.

Found the best dairy free coffee creamer.

Got me one of these and have been enjoying it on stressful days settling back into daily work-life.

My new forever scent.

Spent far too much time and money in The End.

Same goes for Passenger. Too many beautiful things in one beautiful place.

Obsessed with Sage Plant Based Bistro and their in-house vegan and sugar free ice cream concession, Kind Kreme.

A road trip to and through Joshua Tree is something I would do every weekend if I could.

Frontier Cafe do the best vegan tempeh BLT and I think I will struggle to ever find one that can compete with it.

Staying my friend Bonnie's apartment I fell in love with grinding coffee beans freshly each morning. Try it, you'll see.

Bamboo tea strainers! One. Two.

I love a copper straw but also giving these a go too.

Never going back to disposable cotton pads. Never ever.

Loving this site and I think you will to.

Full travel journal on LA coming soon.

I recently connected with the team over at Ecoage - a brand consultancy founded by Livia Firth that helps businesses to grow sustainably, by creating, implementing and communicating sustainability solutions. They run such inspiring initiatives and projects, including the #30Wears, #TheGreenCarpetChallenge and The Commonwealth Fashion Exchange, based on collaboratively curated garments which take into consideration the supply chain, natural recycled or renewable materials and ethical work and labour practices. Last month they opened The Commonwealth Fashion Exchange exhibition  in partnership with Swarovski, The Woolmark Company and MATCHESFASHION.COM, at Australia House; open until the end of April.

This new power machine is never being put away. It's out in the morning awaiting its smoothie duty, and it's gotten me through the colder days with its soup setting.

I first discovered Stress Dots whilst studying Holistic Massage last year. They are such a relevant and unique tool for managing stress, helping you to be more aware of you moods and most importantly your stress and anxiety levels. With the colour-coded key, you can monitor your levels of fear and nervousness; almost like a notification as a reminder to take a breather.

I, Tonya is as good as you think it's going to be. Maaaaargot!

The Hunter Technique is by far one of my new favourite workouts, and in fact, it’s nothing new at all. With Jermaine Hunter, you get back to basics and embrace your inner animal, returning to the innate primal ways that have been suppressed as society and the human race has evolved. Think crawling, climbing, swinging and walking like monkeys, ducks, lizards and more. Working out this way is more like playing; a combination of discovering how many ways your body is designed to move, and seeing how much true strength you really have. It instills a sense of exploration and excitement and requires a focus and concentration like no other workout. You will leave sweaty and feeling challenged, but you don’t leave stressed or short of breath, or feeling agonisingly depleted. Also known as Calisthenics, the movements involved are simultaneously calming and strengthening, demanding for both the body and mind and creating a strong body-mind connection. And when you begin to rediscover what the body is designed to do and just how out of touch you've become with it, you'll be more inspired than ever to get stronger and fitter.

I discovered this artisan homeware brand in a gift store in Clifton, Bristol and I think everyone should know about it.

During London Fashion Week, I met the founders of www.wearthewalk.co.uk; an organisation which showcases up and coming, new, young designers, and through a monthly subscription program, offers a service whereby you can rent these special pieces - most of which are made by hand and in small batches - whenever you want.

Just in time for #InternationalWomansDay, this @ChintiandParker x @WomenForWomen International collaboration is a reminder that there is so much good in the world. All proceeds from sales go to Women For Women International to help women survivors of war to rebuild their lives.

Last week I met some representative of Nude By Nature; Beauty Thats Good For You;
made with powerful native Australian ingredients, omitting synthetic components and preservatives. I'm loving their bronzer, primer, loose powder eye shadows and moisturising under-eye concealer.

Espa's fitness body oil is unlike anything you have ever put on your body before. And they've just launched a shower oil version. Apply as an oil and enjoy as it mixes with the shower water into an overpowering, aromatic lather.

Errrmm; yes to everything. Why do birthdays only happen once a year?

This Paloma Wool must-have is back in stock.

I tried out such an amazing yoga class at @heartcore with @timcyoga, called XYB yoga. Its a fusion of yoga and pilates and whilst it's more challenging that standard yoga classes and flows more like a fitness class, it is super calming and relaxing in it's own way.

Essential oil of the moment: Vetiver

James Vincent McMorrow (I Lie Awake Every Night + Higher Love)

Austin & Austin - aesthetically, organically and ethically with it. All of their products are certified organic and tested only on people. All of their packaging is made from 100% recycled materials and is fully recyclable.

Gigi x Vogue Eyewear's new collection; in particular, these.

Received a Chakra Bracelet at an event I attended recently.

Finally, a protein powder that doesn't taste artificial or have a sickening sweetness. Personally, I can't bear most protein powders as I find them too sickly, but when I'm working out a lot, Innermost's vegan Health blend in Creamy Vanilla is a post-workout smoothie/shake game changer. (They also do whey-based products too).

The latest addition to the Qnola Family - Quinoa Oat Crunch - has arrived. Same organic British-grown quinoa, same all-natural, functional ingredients, now with added crunch thanks to a dose of fibre-rich gluten free oats. You are welcome.

This Curpo/Viscose slip strap top by Cossac is not only overly wearable, day and night, it's also made ethically by hand, and sustainably, using renewable fabrics.

These dream jeans from H&M. I found them hiding round a corner on the top floor of the store on regents street as I was leaving the store. Am gonna get my #30wears out of them that's for sure.

(These posts consist of a naturally curated collection of things I truly adore, and are not sponsored unless openly stated)
